Kenny was an amazing attorney to work with. Summer 2023 our young son was involved in an accident. We had met Kenny through a mutual friend and immediately following the accident we were advised to seek legal assistance. We immediately contacted Kenny. He brought my spouse and I into his office and talked us through the process. I knew right away, I could not get through the process emotional and mentally without his guidance. Kenny and his assistant Beverly talked us through each step. I suffer from Anxiety and it was increased from the accident, Kenny would take time and repeat what to expect. He was so patient with me and was so polite to repeat information he had shared already. . He gave great advice through the whole process. We are thankful for his assistance through the whole process. I hope I never need another accident attorney but if I do, I will immediately call Kenny. I will suggest Kenny to all my friends and relatives. Thank you Kenny for your dedication and always asking how the little guy was doing.

My sons and I were hit by a dump truck that left me with ongoing neck pain and headaches almost a year and a half later. And these headaches weren’t just physical, dealing with the other drivers insurance and making sure medical expenses and treatments were covered was an additional headache. After listening to my frustrations for over a year, friends of ours recommended we reach out to Kenny and I’m so glad they did. He guided us through the process and represented us well. Not having to deal directly with insurance anymore and having someone handle all the logistics was such a relief. Plus he helped us with not only getting reimbursed for medical expenses related to the accident but the compensation also allowed me room for continuing on with treatments as needed and not needing to worry about those possible ongoing expenses.

I am in Wells County and was very thankful to have been referred to Mr. Friend by a local attorney down here. Even if you are a bit outside of Fort Wayne, I would highly recommend that you hire him as your attorney.

After a long struggle with my first attorney, I hired Mr. Friend. Within the first month he did twice the amount of work my first lawyer failed to do. Any piece of evidence or information that correlated to the case was send to me to review. He also stayed in contact with me through out the process.

I hired Nick for a custody case when the mother of my child moved out of state and tried to register a foreign order. I needed someone really good so I called a very renowned and retired lawyer in the area (since I’m out of state) and asked who the best lawyer for family / custody issues. He said Nick, no question. He’s experienced, hungry, and honest. I have now had Nick representing me off and on for the past 5 years and because my situation happens to involve parental alienation and complicated matters, we continue to litigate and there’s no one I’d rather have on my side. In this course of time my child’s mother has hired 4 different attorneys as none of them have faired well against Nick (it also doesn’t help she has always been on the wrong side of the law). If you hire Nick he will listen, thoroughly research the facts and precedent, and give you your best chance at relief in your case. There is nothing like the piece of mind having great and honest representation. I’ve seen so many lawyers argue a case that they weren’t prepared on, had wrongs facts, can’t remember the characters names, and just fail to make their case and aren’t taken seriously. Trust me, call Nick.

I hired Nick Hursh to represent me in a Family Law case that was out of the realm of norm. No child should have to go through a court experience siting on the opposite side a parent instead of having them on your side; as a supportive parent should be. Since my situation crossed normal lines; I chose Nick based on his schooling/professional experience and online reviews. My hopes he would match for my needs but quickly those "hopes" have been proven as fact. He drafts his own court paperwork and is extremely detail oriented. He handled the timing of my payments for his fees, in a compassionate understanding way considering that I am a Single Mother and we are all currently in the CONVID-19 Pandemic.

Nick was really good in fighting for me and the R.O. made on me by my bfs EX. My bf is going through a nasty divorce and of course she's doing the typical "reaching" as I like to call it. Being that all of allegations made on me were so far fetched and outlandish, I had PROOF against all the allegations made, which we did NOT even have to present any of this proof. Basically saying she had no legit reason for request, and Nick was able to show there was no basis for any of her claims, which were 100% falsified. He knows his stuff, he goes in ready to fight for you, and wins. He will remind you to stay calm and keep your poker face straight, which I really respected and loved his tactic. Hopefully I will not have to use any attorney ever, but if I was in need he will be my go to. I highly recommend him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
