Took over 2 years and still never went to court. Took thousands of dollars and did absolutely nothing.

I hired Grant Stupek to help with a child support case after another attorney (at another firm) wasn't handling it very well at all. Grant took over the case, and was absolutely wonderful to work with! He was both understanding of the issues, while not only being very firm, but also advising me of the best actions on the case. We were able to bring the case to a favorable conclusion. I would highly recommend Patterson Law for any legal needs based on this experience.

Pros
1
Highly professional and responsive legal team
“Rex and his team are extremely professional and easy to work with. I will most definitely be using them in the future for my legal needs.”
2
Effective and successful legal representation
“Grant took the time to see me as a person and asked what the end result was going to be. He always explained my options in English terms where I could understand them. Him and his team did something I've been trying to do for a long time and was very successful.”
3
Compassionate and supportive approach
“During such a hectic and heartbreaking time, Grant and his office team offered me a safe place to voice my concerns during my divorce. Every phone call, email, and voice mail was met with a kindness I will always remember.”
4
Excellent communication and updates
“Communication was excellent. Everything went smoothly. Grant represented me very well! I would definitely recommend 10/10. Thank you so much for all that you had done!”
5
Strong legal expertise and knowledge
“Rex and Tanner in court: They are a dream team. Both are highly organized, composed, well spoken and they command the court room with their presence.”
Cons
1
Inconsistent communication and responsiveness from staff
“Very hard to communicate with. Left several emails and voicemails and got no response or late response back.”
2
Concerns about billing practices and transparency
“I do not feel that I received fiduciary care with the attorneys here. I do not believe that I benefited whatsoever from an almost 10k bill, and we suffered injury to our settlement goals.”
3
Lack of thorough case preparation and attention to detail
“I was charged for the preparations for a counter settlement agreement and told the offer was sent and the opposing counsel never responded. My goal was a settlement agreement which only added transportation to the original agreement I walked in with written by my opposing attorney and after Rex dismissed me as his client, I learned from opposing counsel that the offer was never sent.”

I’ve never felt more like someone was on my side than I have with Carson. Michelle Brown Stohler, Michelle Santiago, and Jeremy Senk have lived and breathed my case for 6 months now, and I know they’ll fight for me for as long as it takes. I never expected the level of care I’ve received from this firm, and I’m eternally grateful for how hard they fight for me every day during such a hard time in my life.

David is an amazing lawyer! We hired David in May, told him we wanted my husband to adopt my daughter, and we needed a passport by December. By November we had our passport and the adoption was final! We had to jump through many hoops and he still made sure we got what we needed on time. He kept us updateded throughout the whole journey and made sure we knew and understood everything he said or was doing! I highly recommend David!

DuPont Hospital sued me regarding the bill of delivering of my son. I had proof that it was settled and yet they pushed forward with a trial to prove I was guilty of nonpayment. I asked David to represent me against this enormous company. He quickly reviewed my file and assured me we had a case. During and before the trial he worked hard to ease my fears and nerves. We won!!! He did a wonderful job and I cannot thank him enough!

I was a client of Lindsey's a few years ago. She handled a traffic ticket for me and did an excellent job. The process was efficient and handled by Lindsey with no hassle. I would highly recommend Lindsey as an attorney to all of my friends and family.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
