Mr. Nicholson has been extremely helpful with several issues I have... the most recent is an eviction in which he exceeded my expectations. That is why he will continue to handle my other legal matters.

Thank you so much Katherine Noel. This was my first experience being in Court and I was completely unaware of how any of the legal system works. It was a family matter and so alot of my heart was in the matter and it's not something I'm able to block out. I was able to trust you to not only speak for me, but to know the correct legal language. You have full knowledge of the law and how it needed to be applied to my specific situation and the people involved. You deal with things in such a way that the job gets done and there's no mess! I appreciate you! God bless!

Hired Weston Nicholson for a case which was dismissed for a few factors. After that it was written in our agreement that any funds would be given back that were not used. Its been 2 months and still have yet to get it back from the firms owner. It's like a game of the run around with it. I respect Weston he was professional but the firm owner seems to not care about getting the rest of the unused funds back.

A fully deserved 5 stars to Mr. Nicholson, and his team. I would give 10 if possible. They're very kind, informative, and reassuring through all the ups and downs. They worked towards my goals, providing me updates the whole way as I needed them, and managed to get my case taken care of completely and dismissed. Would definitely recommend to anyone I know, as he is one of the best attorneys I've ever retained. Will most assuredly be the best and last stop you make down your winding legal road!

Worst experience I have ever had with a lawyer. I was lied to straight to my face and ignored after the fact when I tried to call my lawyer and get the situation fixed. It took 2 years to get a resolution for a simple case and I was maxed out in the process. I absolutely would not ever recommend this firm to anyone and advise you to stay far away or ask your judge for a change of counsel immediately.

She would definitely make a great consult. I had no clue where, how, or when and she helped me easily through every process! She made sure I was well prepared before I ever needed to worry about being ready. She is just an awesome, awesome lawyer and a great down to earth person. Sara made sure I have every resource at my disposal. I would not even hesitate to come back to her for my other legal needs!

Ms. Pitcher assisted us with adoption related documents a couple of times and did outstanding work. Her passion for her work and personal touch made us much more comfortable and confident in working through a complicated process. With her help, two orphans got a forever family.

Kevin O'Keefe is an awesome estate/probate attorney. We hired him for our grandparents estate and he did a fabulous job. I'm so glad we got to work together. He is extremely accessible and ready to return emails or phone calls with very reasonable timing, almost immediately by email many times. Our process was special and had many twists and turns and he was always able to give me answers and advise. I felt very confident knowing I had him to turn to in our situations. I would definitely recommend Kevin to everyone. He explained this process in such a way that I am able to tell someone else. He is excellent. Thank you Kevin for being a great attorney!!! My family is happy to be finished lol. Please choose Kevin and tell him that Jaime's review sent you!!!!

My first meeting with Mr. Pickett went smoothly and he was very upfront and honest about his concerns and thoughts about my case. He was very thorough in explaining what I needed to prove my case and what my chances were for winning. I was very appreciative of the fact that he did not talk down to me. He was extremely professional and showed concern for my worries. I would recommend him to anyone seeking legal advice.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kokomo, Indiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
