I’d like to share just a snapshot of our experience with Langer & Langer. From the moment we met Robert Langer we knew we had made the right decision. Robert and Tara were always there to answer any and all questions. His professionalism and attention to detail along with the firms decades of experience is very important. What was somewhat more impactful on us was the fact that Robert Langer and his team cared about what we went through. A genuine desire to try to make “right” something that was so terribly wrong and for that we are grateful!

I would absolutely recommend this firm to anyone that needs a professional, honest and genuine group or attorneys to fight on your behalf. My family had a horrible tragedy happen to us and Robert Langer was beyond helpful, knowledgeable and on our side in getting justice served. From start to finish, myself and family were more than pleased with Rob and his team. His assistant,Tara Haack is wonderful as well. Always available for quick questions or anything I needed. Thank you all so much for making our voices heard and supporting us the whole time.

Pros
1
Highly skilled and knowledgeable attorneys who are dedicated to their clients' best interests
“Mike Langer has been my attorney for over 10 years, providing me with legal guidance on several topics. Most recently, I found myself square in the middle of a high-profile divorce that had a lot at stake - for myself and my family. Mike and Kayleen teamed up and made what was the most difficult season of my life one that I could get through.”
2
Compassionate and caring approach, treating clients with respect and understanding
“In the worst time in our life, we hired Langer & Langer to fight for justice for a wrongful death at the hospital of our son. They got justice for him & was able to give us peace. They are awesome people and really care, the whole staff was kind and courteous.”
3
Aggressive and relentless in advocating for their clients' rights
“They are tenacious, never give up and are always on their toes peeking around the corner to anticipate and best advocate for their clients.”
4
Excellent communication and keeping clients informed throughout the legal process
“Steve consistently offers insightful counsel, demonstrating a keen sense of when to assertively push forward and when to employ a more strategic approach. He's always ready to act on my behalf, and I can't express how grateful I am to have him as my attorney.”
5
Ability to explain complex legal matters in simple, understandable terms
“He has a remarkable ability to explain complex legal matters in simple, understandable terms. He's not just an attorney; he's an advisor who genuinely cares about his clients.”
Cons
1
Some potential clients feel their cases were dismissed too quickly without a thorough review
“I don't understand how they can say they won't take a case without knowing the whole story not even a consultation not even a phone call to explain why.. just send a letter and forget it seems very dismissive like you're not worth their time.”
2
Occasional instances of poor communication and delays in responding to clients
“Was extremely disappointed in my experience with this firm. After back and forth emails with Jody for over 3 weeks and still no contact with an actual attorney I decided to check on the status with them and was told they were not willing to go forward with the case because they felt it would not be profitable in the long run for them.”

I was facing 7 criminal charges in Porter County Indiana. 2 of the 7 charges were Felonies. I pretty much thought my life was over. I hired Attorney Germann after being turned down by my previous criminal defense attorney and being recommended to him by a family friend. I was hoping to get a good plea agreement but Gary Germann pulled off a miracle and got all 7 charges dismissed! He literally saved my life! Also all of my friends and family members who have used Gary Germann have had great outcomes. I will never use or recommend another Criminal Defense Attorney in Porter County Indiana again unless its Gary Germann.

I hired Attorney German after receiving a summons to court for an invasion of privacy charge I received when I was going through a separation with my wife. I met with Gary and explained to him the situation and within a month I received a notice from Attorney Germann that my charges were dismissed. I never even had to step foot into a court house. He is a top notch criminal law attorney!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Valparaiso, Indiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
