After trying to deal with the work comp company on my own, I was referred to Jennifer and I am grateful that I called her. She took control of the situation and got things moving forward. She did an excellent job and even though the situation was tense at times, we were still able to have a good time working through all of the issues. Jennifer stayed on top of everything and explained things thoroughly along the way. She answered all my questions and always took the time to talk to me or she called me back if she was unavailable. The office staff was also very nice. I would recommend Jennifer to anyone looking for a quality attorney.

Jennifer is so incredibly knowledgeable. When I first spoke with her, I had been struggling with a worker comp suit (I was injured at work) and felt like I was up against a losing battle. My employer and the insurance company has a powerful legal team and I felt bullied and backed into a corner. Jennifer took one look at my case and in my initial (free) consultation, gave me more information about my rights than I'd ever been given. I hired her because I needed someone in my corner, looking out for me-and that's just what she did. She quickly helped me get the compensation I deserved, and was there for me every single step of the way. Jennifer Zupp is truly a professional.

I got in a serious truck accident, the first place I looked was local and found Mrs Zupp. My wife did most of the talking for me at first, Jennifer has went above and beyond my expectations, when I couldn't move or travel she made home visits to see my progress and my well being she has and still is the best for me she is continually working hard for myself and family's best interest. If there's a problem she is hard at work solving it thank you

Jennifer and Jessica zupp were a great help for us when randy had his accident at work. they worked diligently hard to get what we deserved, and worked hard for us, through every tear filled, panic stricken moment that came up. We couldn't have done it without them, and they will always have our gratitude. There were many times where we were lost in what needed to be done, and they always seemed to know what to say, and how to say it. our thanks go out to you both! your hard work kept us afloat, and their research they did, along with expert opinions where it was needed most, helped out tremendously!

Jennifer and Jessica's business has to be the best it gets as a law firm. They are the Perfect team! You know that feeling when you have a case and even dread your own lawyers contact or they don't contact you at all? Not an issue here. They are so informative, knowledgeable and responsible! They treat me like a real person and in turn, I am able to connect with them and voice my opinions. Not just hear what they think, and then talk it over with someone else because I had something that might be helpful but was too hesitant to interrupt their time. Having a relationship with your lawyer that is open, positive and connected is key! In my personal experience, with any other lawyer, it seemed like their time is far more important than mine. A lot of people, including myself, can become intimidated by that and just shut up and take it. The problem with that is you may miss crucial conversation that can make or break any case. My biggest point being that Jessica and Jennifer actually care about their clients and you are in the know as soon as they are! No shading here. I couldn't have been more lucky to meet these two after what I had already went through leading to my ongoing case. It makes me feel very Blessed. Who can say that about their lawyers? Court stuff takes forever and this firm is on it, and keeps you on top of everything. I don't have anything but good things to say. I do and would recommend them to anyone!

Very rude, extremely slow, behind with the times. Will not admit when he is wrong. Does not follow through with plans.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Denison, Iowa?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
