I was in a dire situation and, as a grown man even was scared enough to shed a few tears. I had all but given up when Trey truly believed in me. He said several times "Michael you will be just fine". You know what...he WAS right. If a person is looking for a lawyer who is honest, caring and will go the distance, Trey Pettlon is the lawyer for you.

Earlier this year I was arrested for a crime I did not commit. I was facing a long time in prison if I was convicted. We had a jury trial and the jury found me “not guilty” thanks to Trey. He did a perfect job. He spent a lot of time and effort into building everything up to help me out. There wasn’t a single mistake or flaw in anything he did in and out of the courtroom.

Trey is an excellent attorney. My husband was facing a felony charge for a non-violent marijuana related crime with a possible prison sentence of eight years. Trey was able to negotiate an interstate compact deal for probation. He is well respected by judges and district attorneys. He cares about his clients. He made us feel confident throughout this anxious process and to be quite honest saved our family. Can’t recommend him enough.

Trey Pettlon was referred to me by another lawyer . I was falsely accused of assault by the mother of my daughter because she was hoping to get leverage in our custody case in domestic court. If convicted I would have lost significant amount of parenting time with my daughter and ,the worse of all ,I would have probably lost my immigration status and would have been forced to live the United States . The stakes were very high for me if I were found guilty for this crime I didn't commit . Trey was very understanding and got quickly very familiar with the facts of the case . He was very candid with me from the beginning and explained to me I could be possibly convicted because of the fabricated "physical evidence". Trey tried his best to have the prosecutor dismissed the case and kept me apprised regularly on how these interactions were going until it became clear we were going to trial. What I appreciated the most about Trey , is that he called me several times as trial day was approaching : asking me many questions about specific events and other facts of the case . That reassured me considerably because from his questions I could tell he had a very deep understanding of the case and more importantly for me , that he truly believed in my innocence . I could tell he was taking my case to heart . We went to trial and Trey did a phenomenal job . He was able to have the judge admit key pieces of evidence ,in spite of prosecutor's objections, which otherwise would have been hard for me to be exonerated . I was found not guilty and don't know if I would have had the same outcome if someone else had represented me . I wholeheartedly recommend Trey Pettlon . If you ever get in trouble you definitely want him in your corner.

I was in an accident and going through all this personal stuff and couldn't worry about court stuff. I am so grateful that I was recommended to go to Trey. He took away all my worries and helps me out so much. Over the last 10 months I have not had to worry about anything having to do with the court because I knew he was handling it. I could just focus on my treatments and healing. He worked hard and got the case dismissed.

Kyle gave me solace when no one else could. He was professional and understanding, even when I felt unhinged by the stress of a divorce and the unknown. He was incredibly reasonable in regards to billing. Kyle’s action and attention to my case changed the course of our lives for the better. There came a point that I knew, no matter what my ex threw at me, I was going to be okay because I had one of the best lawyers in town. It was clear that he had the best interest of everyone involved at heart and wanted things to be fair. And that means everything when your family is on the line. Any threat that came my way was met with a steady, “Okay, that’s fine, I have the best lawyer in town, see you in court.” I will be forever grateful for that kind of confidence in a moment where my morale had been so beat down. Thank you so much, Kyle Crane. Overdue justice was truly served because of you. And because of the way you handled our delicate circumstances, we are united as a family once again. I could not have asked for a better outcome. God bless.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Olathe, Kansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
