I have worked with James McKain and he really takes the time to work with clients. You get the feeling that he truly cares about his clients and that he wants to go the extra step for them. I recommend him highly.

The first time I used James it was awesome I couldn't believe how well it went, he was very communicative at every turn he was well worth the $200.00 I was very happy with his service, and I recommended him in an email to everybody I knew that had a teenager and would be put in the same situation. The 2nd time around here just recently was about as polar opposite as the first time was as it could get. We ended up with Ken his partner whom is overwhelmed with cases and did not have the open line of communication we came to expect from the first go around with James. To be fair I did get a call from Ken after it was all said and done; after several more emails from my wife and myself expressing our displeasure and questioning the outcome of the last case. Ken did call me and apologized profusely for the lack of communication and explained his course of action in the case, I am completely satisfied with the outcome and would highly recommend the Law offices of James Mckain and Ken Tsiprin. Even with the lack of communication I believe these gentlemen are highly qualified and competent to irradicate most if not all Traffic violations for the best results for all concerned. I'm giving a fair rating for "Responsive" and "Kept me informed" because the last case was horrible in those departments but the first case was exemplary.

I hired J. McKain after reading good reviews about his services. But so far I have not been impressed very much. I have been having a hard time trying to get a hold of Mr. McKein. I never heard from him after I left voice messages and sent emails. I could talk to him only when I kept redialing his number and finally he answered. Took to me a few days to reach him. I am surprised he gets many good reviews with this kind of communication.

James represented me on two traffic infractions that were 2 years old. The court did not receive my original petition to dispute the tickets and instead went into collections and racked up over $1,000 in penalties. James was able to dismiss one of the infractions and reduced the other to a small $150 fine. He made himself available for all my questions, kept me informed throughout the complicated process and exceeded all my expectations with the final verdict. Highly recommend.

Jame Mckain helped me with my traffic ticket and beat my case for me. His costs was below average but his handling of my concerns and his customer service were well above the mark. If I could find people like him to deal with in all my endeavors then my life would be alot eaasier.

David is a great attorney, I never felt as if I was by myself in any matter I took to him. David has represented me in several cases in Missouri. I appreciate Mr. Langston as a Great attorney. You can beleive in his word and that he will work for you. I was told by another person while in court one day, that I had the best attorney in the Kansas City area and it showed. Thanks David!!

This is the lawyer you want and need if you are in trouble. He knows the law,is very intelligent and most of all cares about what will happen to you. He went well beyond the specific case I hired him to do……he took care of the problem immediately but then he went further and provided a long-term solution to the problem. He is detailed obsessed,he is dedicated to "the right thing" and he will really work for you because "it is the right thing". He will also keep you constantly in the loop….he calls,he emails,he is available. I have finally met an attorney who makes"attorney" sound like a nice word. I could not be more impressed.

Jerry Wallentine was my attorney for a reckless driving I had this last year. My first email to his office, I got a response from Jerry himself and within minutes I was on the phone with him and he had a game plan. I did look around comparing attorneys since I wasn’t from that area and by far Jerry was my top pick. Jerry absolutely knew what he was doing and seemed to know people in the right places. We weren’t able to get diversion due to certain things on my end and when my court date came, Jerry was right there with me. The court room was completely full and I still can’t believe it but Jerry got me to be seen first. We got exactly what we wanted out of it and Jerry saved me from losing my license. I’ve never left a review for anything but felt like I needed to let others know about my experience and how Jerry helped me out. Thanks again Jerry

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Olathe, Kansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
