After providing personnel information and documents like paycheck stubs they stopped communicating and responding to me. A simple we can't help you at this time would have been nice.

I had the pleasure of working with Jack, and I can't say enough about the incredible job he did for me. As a plaintiff’s attorney, Jack truly goes above and beyond for his clients. He took on my case on a contingency fee basis, which was a huge relief since it meant I didn’t have to worry about paying costly fees upfront. From the start, Jack was not only professional but also incredibly compassionate. He took the time to understand every detail of my case, always made sure I felt heard, and provided clear explanations of what to expect throughout the process. His dedication to fighting for justice was evident in every interaction we had. Jack’s expertise and determination led to a successful outcome, and I am beyond grateful for his hard work. He was always accessible, kept me informed, and made me feel like I was his top priority. If you’re looking for an attorney who genuinely cares about his clients and will fight tirelessly on your behalf, I highly recommend Jack. He is an outstanding attorney who delivers results!

Our litigation took years because we weren't in it for a quick settlement. Jack and his team worked with us every step of the way. He gave honest feedback in the preparation of what was to come and didn't rush the process. He wasn't just our lawyer, he became a trusted family friend. I am both pleased and proud of the work done. I would recommend him and his team to anyone.

I can't say enough good things about the McInnes Law firm. Jack is diligent, patient, empathetic and talented. He is willing to do what he can to see that justice is served and not so much about billable hours as most attorneys are. If I could give him 10 stars I would. Thanks Jack!!!

Eric Kraft is the best of the best. He's a concerned person, knowledgeable, goes the extra mile to get all the details, listens closely, and is true professional. In the courtroom he is confident but not arrogant, gives a smooth presentation in front of the judge, and speaks clearly so everyone can understand. He never shows signs of frustration or loses his cool. He won one case for me and now I have him working on another one. I have confidence the outcome will be the same as the first.

We were recommended to Mr. Morrison during a very stressful and critical time in our civil court case. From the very first consultation and every interaction following, Eric has been quick to help us navigate the situation at hand. He goes above and beyond to handle hard situations with a great deal of care and sensitivity. He took time to meet with us in person and catch up on the ongoing situation. He brings a sense of peace during court hearings and is quick to call and further explain things if they are not clear during trial. He presents the truth with clarity, thoughtfulness, and sincerity. We were continually impressed with his motions and grateful that he was so on top of our case. Eric intentionally invested in our case and it has been life changing for our family! We are so incredibly grateful for his work and time! He has been a huge blessing for our family!!

My divorce was lasted over a year and a half, was very contentious and Eric stuck with me every step of the way. My ex had two attorneys during the process and we also had a guardian ad litem involved and Eric’s communication between all of the other parties and myself was very professional. Eric really took the time to listen to my story from the initial consultation onward. He is very compassionate, kind, and honest. He told me what the most likely outcomes would be all along the way in my custody case. My case ended up going to trial over property division and Eric was very prepared and prepared me very well for the questioning in court. We essentially won every argument made at trial. I could not have asked for a better outcome. I highly recommend Eric Morrison as an attorney to anyone going through such a difficult life transition as divorce.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Prairie Village, Kansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
