Dr. Matthew Hoppock is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I had good experience working with him. He is also very considerate, prompt and attentive. I’d recommend him and his farm any day. However, I didn’t have the greatest experience with the assigned paralegal. There were mistakes and miscommunication few times. I do see people have better experience with the whole team, I think there is room for improvement in paralegal team however. Had great experience with the reception staff though - friendly and kind. I didn’t take a star off for that, since Matthew and the team did help me with the case promptly and got it closed efficiently. So I’m happy with the overall service and outcome. Definitely thankful for that.

His assistants or whoever is in charge of making paper work to send to the USCIS make too many mistakes and those mistakes can be super costly to a person. I get it probably they have a lot of work but come on we work hard too for the money we make and trust you guys to be accurate so we don’t have to pay twice and with USCIC raising the prices.

I don't even know where to begin. I never thought I could find someone to help my mother until we met Mr.Matthew Hoppock and his team. We are incredibly grateful for their exceptional help with navigating my mother's USCIS application. After years of unsuccessful attempts and reaching out to many lawyers who wouldn't take her case, we found Mr.Matthew Hoppock through Google. I scheduled a meeting with him not knowing what to expect. From the moment we arrived, he listened attentively, asked insightful questions, and confidently agreed to take her case. I was shocked and relieved after so many disappointments. Throughout the entire process, Mr.Matthew Hoppock and his team provided expert guidance and unwavering support. The staff was incredibly welcoming and efficient, making what seemed like an overwhelming process much more manageable. I highly recommend Mr.Matthew Hoppock for anyone seeking knowledgeable and compassionate assistance with immigration matters. Their dedication and professionalism deserve more than a perfect score - 1000/100!

Bruce was retained after two other lawyers (1- a puppet guided by the court & 1- eager for money), lead me to believe they would defend my rights and turn my case around. I was beginning to believe all the rotten things I had heard about lawyers, then I met Bruce. Bruce did not sugar coat my case, he made no promises, and he explained my legal options in a straight forward, matter of fact way. He listened to my concerns, answered my questions and understood my distrust for the legal profession, at the end of our almost three hour initial consultation, I decided to retain him. I was thinking, what the hell, this guy has got to be better than the other two….. He wanted much less than the other two, I was thinking, I am so screwed. I got a call from Bruce before 10:00 a.m. the following morning; he had managed to get me back into the court ordered classes I had been dismissed out of and I was told no by the court when I asked for their permission to reenter. This in itself was absolutely un-freaking-real, but the fact that the instructor of the class was willing to work with me to complete the classes before my next court date is beyond a miracle. When I thanked Bruce again in our next meeting, he just said in his humble way, “your welcome” and “we still have work to do”. My case had been continued a few times, Bruce managed to straighten it out after he appeared with me in two hearings, I am well on my way to getting through this nightmare. Bruce worked to get the best possible outcome in my favor (I am not a felon) and did it for a very reasonable price. I believe, if I had retained Bruce in the beginning, this case would have been dismissed. Bruce never came right out to say the other attorney(s) were incompetent or should have handled this case differently; I believe he really wanted to, though I could be wrong. Bruce if you are reading this, THANK YOU, thanks so much!!!!

This is an attorney who knows the law and will defend your rights! The court appointed attorney assigned to my daughter's case refused to defend her rights in our small town court system and then told me, "I could hire an attorney that gives a sh**", which ended up being the only sound advice the "appointed one" gave. When Bruce appeared in court on my daughters behalf, the small town court justice crap stopped. My daughter would have had her drivers license suspended and a record for life if not for Bruce. Bruce questioned every charge, he ended up getting all but one charge dismissed. Come to find out, reasonable cause is required to search your vehicle. When the court appointed attorney told me to hire an attorney that gives a sh**, I did, I hired Bruce Kips! In addition, Bruce charged a very reasonable rate.

I had tried to sell my house through a real estate company with no luck. I decided to try to sell my house by myself. Within a week I had an offer. Bill was able to handle all of the for sale by owner paperwork. He looked over contracts and explained everything to m; he made sure I was protected during the process. I plan to use Bill for my estate planning, I trust him completely. I know he will explain step by step the process, to make sure I am happy and satisfied when we are finished.

My mother had Mr. Stilley create estate documents for her after the death of my father in 2002. When her health started to fail I took over her financial affairs (as I had power of attorney) and Mr. Stilley helped me understand my range of authority. Once she passed away in 2013, he worked with me to settle her estate. Since I live in central Missouri we communicated mostly by telephone and e-mail. His responses were usually timely and many of my questions did not require an immediate reply, so e-mail worked fine. He seems to have a busy practice, and if I needed a more immediate response I would call the office and if he was not available I could always get a response within 24 hours. I found his fees reasonable, think his work is good and I would use his services again.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Shawnee, Kansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
