I was an out-of-stater needing to find a local attorney I located Marl's name online. I left a message and he returned my note very quickly. He fully understood my situation and spent much time on the phone discussing my concerns. I knew I wanted him to represent me. He met me in court and sure enough his strategy for the issue was perfect. His friendliness, professionalism, and skill helped me resolve the issue. I highly recommend Mark to support you in your legal matters. Susan B

Mark is the man. Traveling through Kentucky, I left the commonwealth with several charges including a couple felonies. Waited until the last minute and finally turned to Google to find an attorney to help me through my.. situation Mark absolutely delivered on every aspect of the case. Zero surprises. He has a good working relationship with state prosecutors and is able to navigate conversations and plea negotiations more effectively than most other lawyers. If you find yourself in a situation you absolutely don’t want to be in and if you want to put it behind you as quickly and as definitively as possible, give Mark a call and give him the details of your situation and allow him to put your mind at ease and get to work getting you the best result possible. Thank you for all you do, Mark!

Mark responded to my initial call immediately with an appointment that day. He was clear and consise about what he could do. The day of court he achieved exactly what he said he would strive for. I will definitely use his services again in the future if needed as well as recommend to anyone who needs counsel. Thank you Mark you are very much appreciated.

Pros
1
Excellent legal knowledge and ability to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
“Absolutely outstanding knowledge of the legal system. He promised to get it done and he did!”
2
Responsive and communicative with clients
“Mark always responded to my emails or text messages and even his assistant was responsive.”
3
Affordable and reasonable pricing
“You can tell that he is not one that just wants your money. My boyfriend's charges had him at over 10 years of jail time and Mark fought to get it down to 3 years and a month later applied for shock probation on his behalf!”
4
Personable and caring approach towards clients
“That tells you a lot about his character. I could call or text him at any time and he would respond. He is also very reasonable with his price you can tell that he is not one that just wants your money.”
5
Efficient and effective in handling cases
“Mark worked very hard on both of my cases, one in 2011 and one in 2016. I was more than happy with the outcome of both situations.”
Cons
1
Instances of poor communication and lack of transparency
“I paid him 400$ to come to court twice for me to reschedule my court date. Than he asked for more money. Biggest waste of money ever.”
2
Potential for unprofessional behavior in certain situations
“I am not very familiar with bowling green and their attorneys so when it came to finding the best one I was very skeptical. I sat with Mark and he was very clear and honest with me but once I started to hear other things from different attorneys that just wanted my money I began to second guess Mark. I was very rude and disrespectful towards Mark but there was not one time that he was unprofessional towards me despite how I treated him.”

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bowling Green, Kentucky?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
