I have been babysitting (&raising my own) children for over 20 years! Then the unimaginable happened to me and i was brought into a families case because i was their babysitter and they were wanting to charge all caregivers because they couldnt pinpoint any 1 person.. i freaked out! I cried! I lost sleep! Etc. I didn't want this case to flow into my family and effect my children in any way and I obviously did not want to have those charge!! Very heart breaking and scary situation! So I began my search! I researched sooo many attorneys! I had to be sure I had someone who would protect my children most of all and secondly defend my innocence and keep me from being charged! I spent 2 days researching, calling and speaking with attorneys.. most sounded the same, pretty routine, very brief explanation etc. Some seemed to not even know of the type of case it was, or anything about it, even being in family law? And none of them gave me the feelings of confidence, safety and protection that i was hoping for.. this was scaring me more.. Then I spoke with Joeseph Ireland and WOW! Thats where my search ended! He was extremely knowledgeable! He was explaining exactly where things were on the paper in front of me, over the phone! Then as i was reading him the sections he had asked for, anytime I would slightly pause because there was a word that I couldn't pronounce. He would literally fill in the blank of my pause and say the word before i could even try to pronounce it?! He was very professional but knew how to speak to u as calm and caring as a life long friend! He gave me all the specifics on how the case might go, should go and could go!! As well as all possible outcomes. He knows the laws and was very spot on!! I dont know much about laws and the courts but Joeseph was great at breaking down and explaining it all in a way I could fully understand! He was very patient and listened to my every word. He answered all my questions (and I had a lot!) He also calmed all my anxiety and fears! After our consultation I was left speechless! (In a good way!) I knew I HAD to hire him as my lawyer and I did!! He remained the same patient, caring, knowledgeable, "life long friend" throughout the whole drawn-out process! He also kept me reassured that I didn't have anything to fear! He made sure i understood everything that was going on, what was going to happen next, what I needed to do to prepare if anything and all possible outcomes. I am 110% positive that he was the best I could have found and so thankful I did! And every since the day of consultation I have told so many people about Joeseph Ireland and I also will always HIGHLY recommended him!! I could never thank him enough for everything!! He's the Best! Hands Down!!

I am speechless after an hour-long consultation with Joseph Ireland! He listened intently and was honest with his recommendations and suggestions. He was professional, yet had the ability to connect on a friendly level with my son who was nervous about the entire legal process. He helped us feel much more prepared with a plan moving forward. Mr. Ireland is a great find for your family law needs!

We were faced with the biggest fear of our lives and after calling so many attorneys for help, Joseph Ireland called me back immediately after I left a message and just like that, I knew he was the one. He represented my son in a very sensitive case. No doubt if we hadn’t had him in the court room it would have ended very differently. He is extremely responsive and knows how to prepare you and make you understand the court system (lord knows it’s a mess). The state of Ky really needs to look into how judges have no care in the cases they are hearing in Kenton County Family Court! CHILDREN’S SAFETY should be their priority but it clearly is not. Long story short no one wins in family court but we were successful at protecting our most valuable family member and we owe that all to him! Thank you Joseph for loving what you do and most of all caring about your cases. If you are looking for an attorney STOP looking and call Joseph!

Mr. Ireland is intuitive and honest. I hired him to help with school placement for my children, as my ex-husband and I couldn't agree upon the location. He walked me through the entire process with honesty and integrity (despite the unprofessional tactics used by my ex-husband's attorney).

I was in desperate need of legal help and guidance as quickly as possible as it pertain to a domestic issue I was dealing with and could not make go away. When I got "zero" help from the family court system, police departments in two states, or any other resource I reached out to I found Joseph Ireland. He listened to my issues and responded accordingly in a matter of a few hours delivering an end product that same day, which was most favorable to me in my difficult domestic situation. Extremely knowledgeable in the law, very professional, and prompt in his service and delivery, he exhibited excellent and complete follow through. Hands down I could not recommend a better attorney for your family law needs.

Amy helped with a custody case and we got the results we were looking for! She was sympathetic, concerned for my child's well being, and fought hard for what we wanted! I can't thank her enough!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Covington, Kentucky?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
