We were super excited after meeting Caddas, he was FULL of enthusiasm and promised us the moon and said we will make them pay (jail time) for illegally keeping your child from you. But after receiving payment for retainer he said i'm not doing any of that, lost all enthusiam for the case and focused on the wrong part of the claim.( parenting instead of assests.) Before hiring we told him to call whenever possible, it was alot cheaper! Instead he emailed 1 word or 1 sentence emails to us and opposing counsel when it was not necessary, a phone call would've sufficed. (Thank you, got it, recieved the item, I'm starting on this if you have any questions) He had no respect for us, didn't care how we felt or what we wanted. He was so distracted that he never started on our other part of the claim, it was a simple subpoena to further our accepted motion. Instead he never did anything with it, then was denied by the courts because nothing else was filed. We are a few years later and I am stuck paying for another attorney to fix his mistakes. Now I have time against me because he didn't pay enough attention to our case and missed important details and documents. The other thing that bothered us was he was enthusiastic and compassionate and really wanted to make the other party pay for their contempt and fraud. Once the petitioner retained counsel he was buddy buddy with them and his entire tone changed. From my understanding opposing counsel and caddas were friends, always communicating and billing us for it. My retainer was almost empty, instead of calling us he sent an email and we didn't immediately pay him, we told him we would come meet him next week. After we worked out the settlement offer for parenting, and decide how to proceed with assests, since it was denied from his negligence. While we were working out the settlement with the other party he dropped us and were told after he filled documents with the court. So it was basically $0 maybe -$200 from the emais. He was not part of the settlement; my ex and I worked out a fair negotiation then had her attorney prepaid doxuments to sign. Then two weeks later i was sent a bill of $700 then it was $1200 then it changed to $500. No clear billing and the price kept changing, we did all the work for the settlement all he had to do was sign and submit the settlement and somehow that turned into $1200 then went back down to $500. The one good thing I would have to say is that they were very willing to take a smaller retainer to start services vs the traditional 5k retainer. But now I see why, they knew that they would bill 2-4x what they actually worked and charge for a basic "Thank you email". Very unethical, I have worked with a few attorneys and none of them have ever charged for basic reply, never had changing bills. If you still decide to retain Caddas I recommend getting a more detailed retainer and asking to put communications charges in writing and waiving basic replies as billable. Other than Caddas the law firm itself was very professional, great paralegals but you need to hold their hand and make sure they are following up with your case and filling items in a timely matter. Caddas was a waste of money, I filed all motions that were accepted before I retained counsel. All he did for us was retype up our parenting plan request and organize documents and speak with other party counsel. I could have saved myself alot of money by doing it myself

After a denial of my application for social security disability, I decided to contact Jeff Roberts as we received previous knowledge that he was a very good lawyer for this type of claim. We found this to be totally true. He was very thorough in explaining the process the first day we were there. Then along the way of this process, we were informed of how each step was being handled. Not only was Jeff very professional, but his staff was extremely helpful as well. Questions were answered in language we definitely could understand and phone calls made to the office were returned. Then when my disability was approved, we again received a thorough explanation of the final determination. We would definitely seek Jeff's assistance again if need be and would also highly recommend him to family and friends.

I am an estate planning attorney from Michigan and recently had the pleasure of working with Attorney Dominik Mikulcik from Pruitt Law. I recently created an estate plan for a Michigan client and required an attorney licensed in Kentucky to create a deed and other transfer items to convey Kentucky real estate into a Michigan trust. I chose Pruitt Law for their exceptional rating on Google. This was a very small transaction that many attorneys would not be interested in helping with and kicked it down to a clerk. That was not the case with Mr. Mikulcik. He was well priced, professional and very responsive. I highly recommend him and Pruitt Law for your legal needs. A very seamless and pleasant transaction.

My boyfriend and I worked with Dominik for a case. He was wonderful about taking notes, getting ahold of everyone he needed to, keeping us updated with what he was finding out! He got us the best deal for what we had and at a decent rate too!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Murray, Kentucky?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
