I was recently cited for a moving violation. Being a retired police officer, I knew I had not committed the violation I was cited for, and I also knew that the side of the road was not the place to plead my innocence. I resigned myself to go to court and see if I could have the matter reduced to a non-moving violation. I am currently on chemo and had neither the time nor will, to fight it. I was referred to Ms. Badeaux and through her efforts the citation was dismissed! I highly recommend her and her firm!

I have been a client of Ellen Cronin Badeaux for over a decade. Ellen and her team have been with me through a divorce and a few business ventures. Ellen has been there every step of the way, and continues to be everything you need in an attorney. Sharp, clever and fair.

I contacted Ellen for a consultation on custody and relocation of my daughter. Ellen was very honest and up front during this encounter, she made it very clear that this would be very difficult to accomplish. In 2020 I hired Ellen. I was instructed to complete anger management of which I did. Each time court was held a continuance was issued due to difficulty in finding another party needed to move forward. I had gotten a p.i. to locate the other party in which we were finally able to move forward and able to see a hearing officer. Ellen was able to get me every other weekend custody. This was the first time in three years that I was able to see my daughter. Being that I lived in another state I had to fly out every other weekend no matter how financially difficult it was. I made every weekend visitation and in March of 2022 Leslie was assigned to my case. Leslie answered all my questions and was extremely professional. After many continuances from the other parties I was granted temporary custody of my daughter for the summer. Shortly after this in September I received a deferred judgement granting me sole custody and relocation. Thank you Ellen and Leslie for all your hard work and dedication to me during my case, I am very grateful. I will be keeping Ellen on retainer just in case any legal issues should occur when my daughter has to go back and visit for holidays.

My concerns were alleviated when we spoke. Her response to my message for help was within a day and I felt reassured by her kind conversation. She is not your typical idea of an attorney when you hear her kindness I would consider her far above lawyers I have known in St Tammany.

Unfortunately I have had to hire Tammy multiple times over the years in Family Court. I started with a different attorney and had no results. After hiring Tammy I started seeing results and ultimately winning. And winning all the times after that over the years. My son now lives with me full time, and we couldn't be happier.

I just recently had an issue arise prior to a custody hearing that has yet to commence. It was a PO that was completely frivolous and had to do with the safety and well being of my child(sexual abiuse). Needless to say I was recommend to Jim by my Family Law attorney whose phenomenal herself. I was told that he was an outstanding attorney, and that he was very good at what he does. Well I must concur with that, please believe the hype because it is true. He's extremely knowledgeable, a realist, seasoned, a father and very personable man. I felt sooooo comfortable after our initial consult. Yes, there are no garuantees BUT there are approximates in life and Jim was SPOT with what he told me, my situation literally manifested itself like he said it would. This man knows exactly what he's doing and he's a FIGHTER and very, very, very good one. Trust me when I tell you. Best thing to do is to try him if you need assistance in Family Law or Criminal...I'm not sure what else he practices, but he definitely knows his way around the courthouse. I'm so thankful for what happened today it's just one really big step closer to my daughter like he told me it would be before court. Thanks Jim, I really appreciate your virtue and you know this. I hope this helps all who read this. Courts and Law can be an uncomfortable situation but it's great to have someone on your side litigating for you like it's their problem. Have a blessed day!!!

Attorney James E Moorman III represented me in a case against a narcissistic abuser. The other party had more money, an MBA, and previously no problem exploiting the legal system to drain my resources before there could be a settlement in my favor. Jim Moorman put a stop to that immediately. He was very efficient, smarter, apparently knows more laws than other lawyers in town, and had no problem laying that devil down. I absolutely recommend Jim Moorman as optimum representation. In my opinion, there's none better.

Jeanne Mauldin is an amazing attorney. She helped us after a car wreck that left our car totaled and that also resulted in personal physical injuries. Initially we were very stressed, but once we called her, that anxiety was lifted. She handled everything. Car rentals, car seat replacements, medical appointments, and what would have been countless hours on the phone with insurance companies. We never once felt like we were being taken advantage of because she was advocating for us. Jeanne worked hard to get us a fair settlement. She is smart, caring, and professional. We can’t recommend her enough.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Covington, Louisiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
