Mr. Toale was hired to represent me for a very high profile case. During my representation, I was somewhat surprised to see that he worked overtime on my case, especially given my circumstances. During my incarceration, I noticed that most lawyers did not visit their clients often. For the most part, their lawyers did not answer calls or return them until weeks later. I did not have those issues "At No Point" during my eight month stay in the treacherous Orleans Parish Prison. To be honest, seeing what was happening around me, made me very proud to have an attorney like Mr. Toale. Mr. Toale made surprise visits all the time for very important reasons to show me that he was really working to help me regain my freedom. I would describe him as being very thoughtful, confident and strategic. The process was tough and very confusing to me, but he made sure that I was fully aware of what was happening and most importantly, that I understood what was occurring throughout the entire ordeal. I'm sure it was frustrating to deal with someone like me, but he showed no signs of displeasure. After a three year wait, the ending result of my case was spectacular for me. I could not have been more satisfied with the work he did for me and my family.

Mr. Toale has represented me and numerous employees and friends over the past 30 years for different types of cases. He only does criminal defense now but we begged him last year to represent us when we were sued by a former employee. He spent hours preparing our witnesses for trial. We know he cared about us and he has a strong drive to win. He anticipated the other side's every move. He was worth every penny we paid him and we won last month. The judge threw out the case and we paid nothing. He was amazing in court, the way he asked the other side's witnesses questions and objected to the other lawyer's questions. He made them look like the liars they were. He has always treated me and everyone I know fairly. We hired him about five years after he graduated from law school to collect bad debts for us and we call him whenever we need a lawyer. He and his office have always been friendly, available and very competent. His associate Kara has been available to us when Robert was not. She was also a great aid during the trial.

I am writing to highly recommend Robert S Toale, attorney, I have had the privilege of being represented by him in 2 cases, with very excellence resolutions. His representation of me has been far and above any attorney I had have ever known or been represented by, I can say this with a total absolute certainty, since I have been a paralegal for more than 50 years and have personal knowledge of how many attorneys’ represent their clients. Mr. Toale’s personal dedication is aggressive and compassionate in both criminal defenses, and personal injury cases due to his experience and knowledge of all the various rules and regulations of all the various Courts’. When you come to his firm you can be assured of his aggressive representation, your case will be handled personally by Mr. Toale, as one of the most experienced attorneys. Mr. Toale is the most valuable asset you have been seeking, in any legal circumstances. Cons
1
Questionable billing practices and lack of transparency

2
Lack of involvement and communication from the lead attorney
“I never met Toale, he never was in court on my behalf once, from what I gather he was going to conventions and meetings. Well if he wasn't planning on being my lawyer or represent me to the fullest, he should not have taken my case.”

Mr. Pini Weinstein represented me in a very complex lawsuit that required extensive research and expert trial representation against a goliath law firm. Mr. Weinstein despite the relentless depositions and appeals was able to successfully represent my position and put the entire matter to rest. His commit and continued support over 2 years of litigation will forever be appreciated.

David Greenberg handled a very lengthy messy Civil matter for me. He kept me informed, focused and showed compassion. He returned every phone call as well addressed every new aspect timely. He is well versed in the law and has a good read on people which both were beneficial when dealing with all moving parts of my case. If you are looking for an attorney to see your matter through to the end I would definitely recommend David Greenberg.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gretna, Louisiana?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
