Hands down this is the best firm ever. My attorney inside and out is the best. His work shows that he’s compassionate about his clients' every need. He goes over and beyond and doesn’t think twice when making the right decisions for his clients. I HIGHLY recommend!

I asked for their help twice, and the advice and legal help they provided was exactly what I needed. Both times I got maximum settlement. I'm grateful that I was able find this law firm and would strongly recommend them to someone in need of legal services

I was so impressed with my lawyer that I wanted share it with others. I had not been drinking, but the wheels began to turn and next I knew I was charged. I had no idea what to do. "Get a lawyer "my friends said. Atty Scott Gardner was recommended to me, he was the second lawyer I contacted. I was scared to death. I mean horrifyingly frightened. His amazing office staff, and Attorney Gardner assuaged my fears continuously, listened to me, and I was defended in a manner that as I said above, was beyond superb. I trust that team completely, will forever be indebted to he and Sharon. Thank you both! For one of the scariest times in my life you made it bearable, and geez, my end result was amazing! I got a ticket for 134.00. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. Good luck to you and thank you so Scott Gardner and Sharon, Sharon was amazing, she knows how much she means to me. Beyond words how good they were to me. I am getting teary, I get very moved when good ppl do good things, and this was one of those instances. I am ever grateful for their kindness, and of course great, amazing, save me, and my (mental health), defense. Wow! Hire them!

I would highly recommend Scott D .Gardner . After calling a half dozen lawyers and reading reviews I gave his office a call. I was greeted by Sharon who was very nice and professional . After being transferred to Scott I knew he was guy whom I wanted to represent me . I could instantly tell he was a professional at what he does . He answered ever question and put me at ease . He was very nice and actually a pleasure to talk to. I kept my license for duration of my case and was able to walk away never skipping a beat . For home run results I Recommend Scott D Gardner!!!!

I had a consultation with Jason regarding the eviction process. The scheduling was easy, and Kristen is AMAZING - excellent customer service and quick turnover response time. Jason is great. I cannot thank him enough for being super helpful, honest, and a great human. Jason is the type of lawyer who truly cares about your case and wouldn't take advantage; honest and professional and goes above and beyond. Thank you both!!!!

You owe it to yourself to give this Canna-torney a call. First off , in this high tech voice menu voice mail Sorry he's in a meeting world we live in ....It speaks volumes that Jason Litalien answers his own phone . Not even a secretary screening his calls . A booming voice that commands respect when he's representing you . The guy is knowledgeable in his craft and quick with answers . He's personable and accommodating to a fault . He is up on every new change in Maine when it occurs and contacted ME when it affected me . WHO DOES THAT ? He does have some faults , for instance .....his truck is a Ford . He is a former owner of an adult beverage establishment in Biddeford and also ran for Mayor ( losing by just a handful of votes ! ) The guy is cool and understands the in and outs of us Guerilla growers leaving the dark side and going legit . I believe he is also in the beginning stages of forming a networking group to give us a free exchange of ideas and issues that might directly affect our specific community and help give us a voice . The depth and breadth of his involvement is astounding . He's been around the block . Graduate of Maine Law and proudly Rides his Harley weather permitting ( or not ) . Long story short is the subject line. .... DON'T HESITATE ......!!

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Biddeford, Maine?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
