I have a male friend that lost his job due to an injury and went to cordell and cordell because they advertise that they are there to help the men. He is asking that his alimony be decreased due to the job loss. The attorney he works with charges him for every email, and phone conversation. He receives very little communication from his lawyer therefore he has to send an email or call and gets charged again just to find out what is going on with his case. He has already spent over two thousand dollars in a short period with no resolution. His court date has been pushed out due to the Covid 19 crisis and he is very worried that he will spend even more due to the lack of communication from his lawyer.
**Update to the original post as of today July 20th My friend has spent over 8k and no progress has been made. Remember, this is the guy who lost his job and is just trying to make a new life for himself and not live in his car. He approached his lawyer regarding the charges for a two minute phone call and to make copies of requested documents even when he mentioned the documents he was providing were her copies to keep. Her response was “ I wish I could do the rest for free but can’t because I am part of a larger group”. BYW- just that 5 minute phone call was $1000. This man is living in a house with no running water. Can’t afford to pay his bills and is borrowing money from various family and friends. He is unable to work due to a health issue caused by surgery a year ago.
The firm is taking advantage of dads and ex husbands who continue to pay on time alimony/child support when they are struggling to survive.
