Absolutely thrilled with the exceptional service offered by Evans Law! I am impressed by the professionalism and expertise of their team. Attorney Caterina Sorrento, in particular, stands out with her impressive knowledge, skill, and dedication to client success. Caterina’s deep understanding of the legal landscape is evident every time I consult with her. She navigates complex issues with ease and provided clear, strategic advice that make all the difference. Her attention to detail and genuine commitment to achieving the best outcome for her clients truly sets her apart. The other staff at Evans Law are equally impressive, prompt, courteous, and helpful. They ensure that every step of the process was smooth and stress-free. If you're looking for top-notch legal representation, I highly recommend Caterina Sorrento and the entire team at Evans Law. Their expertise and unwavering support make them a standout choice in the field.

I've recently had the opportunity to work with Matt Evans. He was consistently timely in his responses, very knowledgable about real estate law, thoughtful in his questions and comments, and open and ready to assist in any way my organization needed. Having worked with multiple Annapolis lawyers over time, my experience with Matt has been hands-down the best. I highly recommend him!

The SeaGate HOA Bylaws and Declaration Committee benefitted greatly from the legal expertise, wisdom, and advice, and from the highly personable nature, of Matt Evans as he helped us complete our year-long project to revise our stale Bylaws and Declaration documents. We could not have done so without his high-value review and practical advice. We strongly recommend Matt!

After months of careful consideration, I the property buyer, thought best to share my disappointing experiences after being represented by Evans Law a 4.5+ reviewed law firm based in Annapolis MD. over a period from Nov. 2021 to August of 2023. Point 1; in Nov. '21 they were hired to present the property seller a simple "template" generated contract. Important property information pertinent to the contract was presented within 7 days to attorney Gary D. and given a 2nd time 3 months later. After waiting 110+ days I was promised the contract would be completed in 1 week...that timeline passed and another 2 weeks transpired before completion but laughingly rejected by the seller as previously told it would be. All told, 5 months into this 1 result...BTW you can circumnavigate the globe by sailboat in that time frame. Point 2; in April ' 22 attorney, Ray N. was given the case to negotiate. After approx. 7 months including numerous performance related issues including a potential conflict of interest he was terminated by the firm. I will add, he negotiated a conference with the seller, but the sale contract was rejected for the 3rd time by the seller. Point 3; a 3rd attorney was handed case file in October '22 to negotiate the sale. Little headway was made until May/June '23 but by August banking loan restriction(s) due to higher US inflation and business loss caused a now signed contract delayed into year '24. Finally after receiving nothing but emails and little to no requested phone conversations, spending approx. 15k in approx. 20+ months and requesting a never received conversation for a 5k refund from Matt Evans in Nov. '23, I had enough of this financial money burner. In conclusion, a lessen learned as we all face headwinds, but funneling monies to a law firm is filled with pit falls unless you are very, very demanding. On the other hand, they have a ethical obligation to their clients to be honest and upfront about scenarios and outcomes in related areas due to their past experience which never materialized with Evans Law.

We hired Todd to negotiate on our behalf with a difficult insurance claim. He was very open and honest about expectations, and achieved a fair settlement. We would not hesitate to use his services again, and recommend him highly.

From the very moment we contacted Todd, he and his team took control of our concerns, and they never let us down or kept us in the dark. Todd and his team gathered the facts in our case, reviewed with us our options, and put us at ease that we were in good hands. Todd was extremely careful in the actions he took on our behalf, we never had a questionable charge against our account, and the outcome of our case was better than we could have dreamed given the circumstances. I would recommend Mr. Lochner with great confidence, and should we need legal advice again, I would run my issue by Todd before contacting anyone else. We were treated like family, and that made a very difficult time in our lives bearable. We interviewed many lawyers and found that Todd was the best man for the job. Do yourself a favor and call the Lochner Law Firm, we sure are glad we did.

Phil Culpepper is an excellent litigator. My case was garbage but Phil's quick wit and dynamic arguments convinced the judge that my opponent had the weaker case against me and it was tossed out of court after Phil argued for about 10 minutes.

I was represented by Mr. Roling recently when I was named in a medical malpractice claim that was without merit. Mr. Roling was relentless in his defense. He was VERY knowledgeable and experienced. He prepared for my defense to the smallest detail. He kept me posted on the case as it progressed and was readily available whenever I had a question or was simply getting a little anxious. I hope to never have to go through another malpractice claim again; but if I do, I would want Mr. Roling as my attorney. I would recommend him without reservation.

Mr. Roling guided me successfully through my first (and hopefully only) malpractice case. He is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in malpractice defense. He listened to my concerns and did a great job of guiding me through the case. Mr. Roling used excellent expert witnesses. While I would never want to go through another trial, if I did, I would be confident having Mr. Roling represent me.

David Roling provided an excellent defense in my malpractice case. He understood the issues and provided a well constructed argument that the jury could understand. 25 minutes for them to rule in my favor!!! He also kept me informed throughout the entire process so I knew what to expect from the day I received the complaint to trial.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Annapolis, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
