I want to share my experience with Attorney Stacey Rice during the most difficult time in my life. Stacey and her Team handled my case in the most professional and caring way, she was very attentive and answered my questions promptly. I was under an attack I couldn’t defend on my own. I was threatened and harassed by my ex repeatedly. He wanted to destroy me at all costs. Stacey took the time to listen to all my concerns. She took an aggressive posture when needed and for that I’ll be forever grateful! God Bless you and your Team! Thank You Stacey Rice for your great job and huge help with my case.

Stacey was a fantastic lawyer for me during my horrific divorce. She helped me work through false allegations, a custody battle, and making sure I don’t get hosed financially with support and alimony. She makes you feel at ease throughout the whole process and even when you may not speak to her for a while just know she is fully up to date on your case. I appreciate all her hard work and efforts through the worst 18 months of my life. Anyone that hires her will be certainly sure to get the best lawyer around.

Stacey is awesome in the court room especially if the law is on her side. She is quick on her feet and able to rebuttal and cross examine without hesitation. She can get pretty busy so I would stay in close contact with her associates who are very well organized. My only advise is if your going to go to court make sure you prepare as if your the lawyer, only you are going to know every detail about every situation. And if your going to argue over small stuff your wasting time and money, the courts only care about upholding the law and the well being of the kids. That being said I don't know how I would have gotten through all the BS without Stacey in my corner fighting for my rights to be a father to my kids.

Excellent lawyer. All charges dropped. Caroline got me in and out of court quickly. Caroline used to be a prosecutor and she talked to the prosecutor for my case and got the charges dismissed easily. Thank God.

I hired Caroline when I was charged with offenses in Anne Arundel County. I was charged by an ex for things that I didn’t do. Caroline was excellent from the beginning. She stayed in contact with me promptly throughout the entire process. She told me exactly what I needed to do and represented me perfectly. All of my charges were dismissed by the prosecutor. Thank god I hired Caroline because I am out of all of the trouble and moving on with my life.

Being a single father, and seeking sole custody was not an easy or common task, Allen guided me through the entire process and informed me of possible and likely outcomes along the way. He was always quick to return phone calls even on Sundays and made sure I understood everything that was going on. Allen always had my interest in hand and was able to get me exactly what I wanted and deserved. Highly recommended and has my business for life!

I had an unexpected divorce and was traumatized to say the least. I consulted with and ultimately hired Mr. Ryan and am so glad I did. He is not pretentious at all, will be very direct and tell you how it is whether it's what you want to hear or not. He compassionately helped me understand that what I wanted in my divorce was not realistic and worked relentlessly to get the best possible outcome for me. While in the process of my divorce, I had to solely rely and trust his judgement. After all was said and done, the "how's" and "why's" in what he suggested in my proceedings made perfect sense. Divorce sucks no matter what, but when your own judgement is clouded by emotions, you need an attorney you trust wholeheartedly. Mr. Ryan went above and beyond to look out for my best interests. I couldn't have asked for more.

After a bad experience with another lawyer John Ryan was a breath of fresh air. He kept us informed on everything and what our best options were. He was very honest and direct. If you don't want to hear the truth, don't go to him. He does not beat around the bush which made the process a lot easier on us. When we met with him it was as if he actually cared about us and what we were going through. He did not make it about why WE wanted custody, but rather why it would be in the best interest of the child.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Annapolis, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
