Justin is a wonderful lawyer. My wife and I didn’t know where to turn and a friend recommended Justin. Once we spoke with him he took my wife’s case. We had two other lawyers who didn’t do much and just took my money. Justin had to undo what they did and then do his thing. It was a long road and Justin got the 22.5 year sentence thrown out and then the judge gave her 8 years instead. Justin is a fighter and it was a long road. He brought my wife from WV to Baltimore and talked to the prosecutors and she and Justin worked out to bring my wife back to court. Myself and my wife’s sister testified and the judge basically took the 22.5 years back and gave her 8 years. She’s ready to come home any day now. I just want to relay what a great, great, lawyer Justin is. He was here for us all the way and my wife and I are totally happy with the outcome and I want to advise anyone to call Justin for any criminal case that they have.

Justin was heaven sent after going through several lawyers who were mediocre to say the least. Justin is passionate about his clients, his communication is beyond the norm, and more importantly he knows the law. Justin put his all into my brothers case. His research skills were impeccable, always coming up with different options and ways to approach the case. He was very detailed and thorough while reviewing the case.Justin is very respected in the courtroom and very well known for getting the job done. We couldn't have asked for a better attorney for the job. Every lawyer should take a lesson from Justin as the perfect example of being a top notch lawyer.

I have worked for trained many legal teams from small to the top 5 in my IT profession, but when came to my son's life, I call a referral of top litigator, which lead me to C. Justin Brown. After vetting a few and meeting with Justin, I knew I had made the right choice. His professionalism and compassion transcended into a passion for my son’s case. He even went us to surrender himself and provided wise counsel throughout the entire process. He was available to answer all of my questions. My son was not just another client/matter number, but his life mattered. I trusted him with my son’s life, and He and his legal team came through. I would recommend him for lead or co-counsel on any matter that require discernment, integrity and wisdom before the bench. Thank You is an understatement. His services were invaluable in the victory of my son's case.

Justin Brown is an excellent attorney. He represented me in a federal post-conviction in 2011 and got my sentence reduced from 188 months down to 80 - giving me back nine years of my life! I would not be home if it wasn't for him. He took my case very personally, was always respectful and courteous with me, and always kept me up to date on everything that was going on with my case. Most importantly, he fought hard for me. I would highly recommend Mr. Brown to anyone in need of an attorney - federal or state!

I hired Brown to represent me. Brown exhibited unprofessional skills and lacked a thorough knowledge of his responsibilities. I would not recommend Brown to any one seeking legal representation. His skills are at best mediocre. He is not a lawyer I would trust with my life endeavors in his control. Out of a scale of 1-10 (one being the lowest) Brown would receive a one. He's awful.

The Taylor law firm has proven to be professional and caring about the needs of the people. I spoke with Mr Taylor and other staff members over the phone regarding a paperwork that I needed to submit to the court and they were very patient and kind to handled the paperwork. I am very pleased and grateful for their time, and the guidance that they provided. You will not be disappointed with their services.

I must say that The Taylor Firm is… to say the best and efficient in the judicial process of Baltimore City is an absolute understatement!!!! I was arrested held without bail. I’d hired the firm and within less than a month’s time, I was released without any bail review or court proceedings. As GOD as my witness… out of nowhere I was told to pack up!!!! Not to mention throughout the duration of this incarceration, the team was amazingly informative and empathetic. This firm is a firm that will go far and beyond to get the job done! They WILL work together to work for you. If you’d ask me to describe the Firm… I’d say I’d bet my bottom dollar on The Taylor Firm vs The Cochran Firm any day.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Baltimore, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
