I am writing to express my gratitude for the outstanding handling of my son's case by Dr. Manley and his team. Five plus years ago I began an effort to seek justice for my injured son in hope (in addition to financial compensation for Christopher and his siblings) that the physicians responsible for my son's injuries would be more aware of the relevant medical issues when responsible for care involving pregnancies like Christopher's. I believe Dr. Manley and his team accomplished this goal. Searching for an appropriate attorney/firm to handle Chris' case was challenging. I encountered a variety of issues. I had prominent New Hampshire based firms state that Defendants in Christopher's case "never settle cases". It is my experience as a Corporate Attorney that firms with reputations for not wanting to litigate are seldom offered attractive settlements. My perception was that many of the New Hampshire based firms appeared to have conflicts of interest having had the Defendants provide medical care to their colleagues/employees, although these firms were not always forthcoming when addressing this issue. I had a "high-powered" Massachusetts firm opine that our case was "not win-able" I eventually realized I needed to search outside New Hampshire for a firm with a reputation, financial resources, and attorneys willing to litigate every case in which it was necessary. As the old English metaphorical idiom goes, I realized I needed an "Elephant in the room" and/or "an eight-hundred-pound gorilla in the room". As I understand it, Defendants tried to bring in their own out-of-state, high-powered litigator (their "Elephant in the room") and when he was unavailable for our trial date, and the Judge had had enough of Defendants' typical delaying tactics, Defendants decided to acknowledge they were no match for our "Elephant in the room", Dr. Manley and your firm. So the reputation for Defendants in Christopher's case being unwilling to settle cases was overcome in Christopher's case. I am of the opinion that Dr. Manley's many years of experience as an actively practicing OB/GYN physician when utilized in questioning Defendants and Defendants' expert witnesses during depositions contributed significantly to Defendants' decision to make a "last minute" settlement offer. I am eternally grateful for Dr. Manley's and your firm's efforts on our children's behalf. Thank you Dr. Manley

Giles handled our wrongful death lawsuit involving our infant son. His medical expertise was a huge advantage in our case since the evidence and witnesses involved were incredibly specialized. Giles and the firm were not only excellent lawyers but they cared about our case and took a genuine interest in our needs and feelings. He communicated with us on a regular basis and included us promptly with updates and new information. Mostly, Giles was passionate and gave 110% into the case, which put our minds at ease knowing we were in such capable hands and we could trust him.

Giles gave us hope when no other lawyer thought our case was important enough and would bring in enough money. Our children had grand mal seizures after being overdose almost 23 times the normal prescription amount. They were 3 month old twins and were barely 8 lbs. No parent should ever have to go through what my husband and I went through. The Pharmacist who made the error had no acknowledgements, no apologies and no thoughts for our children, she was concerned with her "reputation" not that two children were on life support and we did not know if they were going to be brain dead or even live through the ordeal. When I told my story to the other attorneys they only wanted to know if there was long term damage so the suit could bring more money. I understand that everyone is in the business of making money, I'm in that business as well, although doesn't the pain and suffering of two infants because of someone's carelessness mean anything? Giles and his firm took our case and now we at least feel as though someone listened and acknowledged that this type of mistake and sheer lack of empathy and caring from a healthcare professional is not OK. My husband and I understand that people make mistakes and that things happen, but we would hope that at minimum that healthcare professional would look beyond their selves and care a little bit about the patient. I will never forget the pharmacist's words to me, a mother with two children who were in a coma and on life support, and hopefully now she will never treat another patient the way she treated us. Giles fought for us and for our children and for that we are thankful.

The Taylor law firm has proven to be professional and caring about the needs of the people. I spoke with Mr Taylor and other staff members over the phone regarding a paperwork that I needed to submit to the court and they were very patient and kind to handled the paperwork. I am very pleased and grateful for their time, and the guidance that they provided. You will not be disappointed with their services.

I must say that The Taylor Firm is… to say the best and efficient in the judicial process of Baltimore City is an absolute understatement!!!! I was arrested held without bail. I’d hired the firm and within less than a month’s time, I was released without any bail review or court proceedings. As GOD as my witness… out of nowhere I was told to pack up!!!! Not to mention throughout the duration of this incarceration, the team was amazingly informative and empathetic. This firm is a firm that will go far and beyond to get the job done! They WILL work together to work for you. If you’d ask me to describe the Firm… I’d say I’d bet my bottom dollar on The Taylor Firm vs The Cochran Firm any day.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Baltimore, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
