Terrible. Said I couldn’t afford to pursue my case. How rude and condescending.

Mr. Schlaich did a fantastic job representing me for two traffic citations. He met with me and explained the process, which kept me calm in a very stressful situation. Mr. Schlaich argued that the facts testified to by the witness did not prove either citation as charged beyond a reasonable doubt , and I was aquitted of all charges. I would highly recommend Mr. Schlaich to anyone.

Mr. Carl R Schlaich has represented me on two different occasions, and both times he has achieved the best possible outcome for those cases. Although I am not writing about the first case. The Case for which I was provided representation was driving on a suspended license which they made into a DWOL charge. I was unsure of whether I was able to afford a lawyer until almost a week before the trial, and even on such short notice, we were able to a consultation over the phone in which I provided the details of the case. On the day of the trial, a last-minute courtroom change, and thus judge change, was a worrisome development according to Mr. Schlaich. This judge was known to be one of the more strict judges that could have heard my case. Even with this development, my worries were taken away as Mr. Schlaich was able to explain all the possible outcomes of the trial and explain the strategy and my role as a defendant when we were called to the stand. All the advice and preparation are what makes the difference for me, courts and legal buildings are very intimidating, and having Mr. Schlaich there was more than enough to ease my anxieties. When the case proceeded and I and Mr. Schlaich were called to the stand, I was prepared and was comfortable as we proceeded as we rehearsed. The DA offered 12 months of PBJ and I opted to plead guilty and leave it up to the judge. The Judge agreed with the DA's recommendation after asking me a few questions about my income and future plans (which Mr. Schlaich warned this judge might do beforehand) and the case was resolved. Not only is Mr. Schlaich a talented attorney who really knows his stuff, he also knows how to prepare his clients in the best way possible before you have to walk up to the stand. I highly recommend Mr. Carl R Schlaich if you are in need of an attorney, he will do everything possible and then some to get you ready for your trial and give you the best possible legal advice and representation you can get.

His professionalism, knowledge of the law and dedication to my case were very much appreciated. Carl worked tirelessly to represent me and was always available to answer my questions in person or over the phone. His negotiating skills are unmatched and proved beneficial in obtaining the best possible outcome to my very complex case. I appreciate the excellent representation I received and thank Carl for his professionalism and dedication.

I contacted Kelly after dealing with an inept, inferior attorney and am so glad I did. From the moment I met Kelly, she was attentive, explained everything, what I was looking at, and her opinion of settling my case out of court. I never felt rushed when meeting her at her office. Her staff was wonderful in getting answers for me quickly, or letting me know when I could expect a return call when Kelly was in court. She gave me pep talks when I needed them. She would be the one I would call again if I needed an attorney.

Ally Comegys guided me through a difficult custody situation. Her fees were very reasonable. Also responded to my emails quickly. I was happy to get my best possible outcome. Highly recommend in Harford County over other more pricey and rude lawyers I consulted.

Listened to my every concern. Very involved in my case in a professional yet compassionate manner. Hits on all the strong points aggressively but with proper court etiquette. I would highly recommend this lawyer if you want to see results. My case was a very long, difficult and drawn out one; Mr. Donlick saw it thru to the very end. Not to mention during the number of hearings he attended as my counsel he made me very comfortable with the confidence he expressed.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Bel Air, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
