I utilized the expertise of Lisa Windsor for my custody case. She is the gold standard by which I will rate attorneys from now on. She is EXTREMELY thorough and detailed and always looking ahead. She looks comprehensively at all options, utilizing her experience as a mediator to ultimately reach a settlement in the case. You can expect promptness, professionalism, and fairness when working your case. I felt from the beginning I had chosen the best attorney from her immediate understanding and comprehension of my complex work schedule at consultation so it indicated to me she had significant experience. I walked away from my experience better informed and confident if problems arose again I would be well represented. I cannot thank her enough!

Lisa was an amazing attorney! She put a lot of time an effort into my high conflict case. I didn’t feel rushed to make any decisions that I was not comfortable with and she took her time with everything. Everything I told Lisa she wrote down and didn’t miss a beat. I will hire her again for any future cases that I may have. I am very happy with how everything turned out!!

Lisa is absolutely amazing. She was thorough, professional, personable, and on top of everything. I felt like she went above and beyond. I appreciated her approach and thoughtfulness throughout a difficult process. I actually felt heard. I felt like previous attorneys brushed me off and did not address my concerns with my case. Lisa focused on every one of them. Her dedication to my case got the results I wanted. Even if she did not, I would have still been happy with her service. She was easy to get ahold of, quick to respond, and super organized. I would hire her again in a second. I hope that I don’t need to, but it’s nice to know I have an attorney that I trust and like.

I was very dissatisfied with my original DIVORCE lawyer. However, there were some loose ends that needed mending so I asked a friend whom works at the courthouse for a recommendation for a NEW lawyer. She gave me Lisa's name. From the moment I met her, I knew she was the one. I just wish I had Lisa FIRST. She is always available to chat, keeps you in the loop of what is going on. Is honest, open truthful and NOT MONEY HUNGRY. Her insight and knowledge have kept me grounded. She is kind and understanding. She listens wholeheartedly and doesn't make you feel stressed, worried, agitated, or confused. All the things my previous atty did. It is almost like Lisa is a friend (therapist) and not a lawyer. I can exhale deeply with satisfaction after speaking with her. She definitely has your best interest in mind. You matter to her, which I find to be a lot less stressful in a very tense and stressful situation. While I am coming to an end with my situation (Thankfully)! I am sad too because Lisa was instrumental in getting me and my son what we deserved and wanted. She will definitely be on my Christmas card list in the future. As a side note the office staff is also amazing, friendly, and personable. While I don't wish anyone to go thru a divorce or family conflicts, but if you are then look no further, Lisa is your lawyer.

Custody issues can be very stressful not only for the parent, but the children as well. I am a father who had a lot against me and when it seemed that no one else believed me or would fight for me or my children she was right there. She always responded to emails and phone calls no matter how small the situation may have seemed. She walked me through each process giving me the best advice on what I should or shouldn't do. When we had our meetings I could tell that she actually listened to every detail and really cared about what I had to say. As my custody hearing is coming to a close, I would like to thank her again for representing me and everything she has done for my family and would recommend her over and over again in the future.

She is very knowledgeable and not intimidated by other lawyers unethical claims or tactics. She handled a family court case for me and I walked away with a huge smile on my face. The very first thing that came to mind when asked to give a review for Mr. Maloney after he handled my car accident case, is that he was extremely professional, very courteous, and pleasure to speak with. Within the first 10 minutes of our conversation he made me feel very comfortable and my mind had already been made up on hiring him to take my case, I don't know how he did it, but Mike actually got me the maximum amount of money that I could receive in regards to the type of coverage the driver at fault had, I'm very happy with the hard work and dedication that he put into my case, and would highly recommend him if you're unfortunate enough to become involved in an accident of any kind !

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cambridge, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
