Mr. Nalli is experienced and knows what he's doing but he lacks communication skills and doesn't communicate with his clients or their families! He will just let you sitting in jail and not keep you updated with what is going on even if nothing is going on he still should atleast contact his client a couple times a month. Especially if they have no court dates set.. I think that is very disrespectful to just leave someone sitting in jail without contacting them at all! He does put up a fight but he doesn't fight hard enough!

Sam represented me regarding two Peace Orders (which really shouldn't have been placed I'm the first place). I hired him because I wanted to make sure I could see my daughter ASAP. Sam said not to worry and he was absolutely right. He's very even keel and knowledgeable, communicates well, and made me feel heard as a client. Can't recommend him highly enough! Seeing my daighter tomorrow! Thanks Sam!!!

Aside from this attorney being knowledgeable and full of experience his follow up with his clients need a lot of work. After my court hearing, I was left with a lot of questions my attorney should have been available to answer but was not and did not make himself available. He did not fully counsel me so that I was satisfied and knew how to proceed. I requested final court documentation from him and did not receive a reply nor any correspondence from his office. It was very obvious I no longer mattered to him as a client. I really felt that to be a deplorable part of service rendered for the money I paid to retain his legal

Mr. Nalli represented me in an out of state case. I chose him as my attorney based on all the positive reviews. He made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire process. The end result was an almost impossible outcome in my favor and I will always be grateful for his knowledge and professionalism.

Shannon and her Office were excellent advocates for me and my family. I was very impressed with her knowledge and commitment to servicing my case. I had some concerns about how my spouse and I could divide assets, especially since I have my own business but Shannon was diligent in answering my questions and organizing the necessary information to help me reach a more than fair agreement and resolution to my case. I am grateful for her and I highly recommend her and the Mulinazzi Law Office.

I needed to speak to an attorney regarding an emergency situation and Shannon took the time to speak with me at length during a consultation but their firm only charged me for one hour - even though I went way past that. She said it was important that she understood my situation and needs. She listened but asked tough questions and even though some of them were hard to answer, she helped me understand the situation more fully. She gave me great legal advice. It was practical advice but also very smart advice that helped me calm the situation so my spouse and I could talk things through a bit. I definitely left my consultation knowing my rights and I was glad I talked to her up front. I strongly recommend her.

Shannon and her term were awesome. She helped me navigate an ugly child support case and very likely saved me thousands. I can't say enough about how compassionate and professional she was. If I ever need family law services again, I'll be going back to Shannon Kowitz for sure.

Divorce is hard. It has been a long, frustrating, 2-year process. Shannon has been an excellent guide and lawyer for me. She is well versed in the law, well respected by her peers, and by the magistrates and judges in Howard County. I would highly recommend Shannon to represent you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Columbia, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
