Let me start off by saying there are not enough positive adjectives to describe Matt Skipper and his team. I was the unfortunate recipient of an HOA organization that took FULL advantage of the residents because they could. It was an absolute abuse of power to say the least. However, in spite of the years of attempted torment, I was blessed to come across Matt Skipper. Although at that point I had PTSD from dealing with Lawyers, I left his office feeling like I had a chance to right the wrongs that had been done not only to me but others. Firm was communicative, explained things clearly in my opinion, KIND & EMPATHETIC, I never felt like I was bothering them & best of all I felt like they were on my side! !! What an awesome feeling! I hope I neverrr have to go through this again but if I do, I’m calling Matt Skipper. I’ve also sent a handful of potential clients his way. A big thanks to Matt & his team. May god bless you & I pray for continued health, wealth & success!

I had a BK-7 on my TransUnion report. The date is incorrect. It shows from 2016 but BK was in 2012. I also had 60 days late on a car loan from 2019, no collection and charge off Citi bank from 2019 paid. Started rebuilding December 2021 with 522 FICO 8 but none of the strategies worked. I have to look for a credit repair company which my colleague at work recommended to me as a PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST to me. I believed her because I knew she was having a bad credit score but that day she showed me her credit score was above 800+ I contacted them immediately to be honest I was not disappointed. Within 6 days PINNACLE CREDIT SPECIALIST wiped out all baddies on my credit report and increased my FICO SCORE to 811 I’m so EXCITED for what they did for me on my credit report. If you need help in fixing your credit, I will recommend them to you via:

Matthew Skipper was recommended by my daughter. My family and I were being deprived of necessary access to our property that the condo association had no legal right to deprive us of. Matthew and his partner, Jeff Kahntroff, took the case based upon the association's violation of the law and our very difficult situation. Both of these gentleman were clear about their position and our rights. They carefully listened to our concerns and freely displayed empathy as problems cropped up as we moved forward. At every point they worked on our behalf to get resolution to the problem often without being asked to do so. Their talent and expertise were responsible for the excellent resolution of our situation, which was more than we could have hoped for. My entire family is grateful to them for their dedication, efficiency, knowledge, skill and most importantly, their remarkable kindness.

Matthew Skipper and his team are fabulous. I was in a car accident and this law firm took great care of me. Not only were they looking out after my claim but for me personally as I had a loss in the family shortly after the accident that had nothing to do with my accident. They were compassionate to my personal needs. That speaks volumes when you feel like you are more than just a dollar to the firm. 20 years ago I was in an accident and went to one of those “commercial” law firms you see all day on TV. I was a dollar to them. I never spoke to the attorney but some paralegal or receptionist. I didn’t get nearly as much in settlement, I guess because so many people run through the larger firm I was just that, “Dollars” to them. I spoke to Matt on several occasions and if not speaking over the phone we emailed. He always responded within 24 hours of my email, again very important. Don’t go to the commercial lawyer if you really want someone to care about you and not just the money. Skipper Law cares about more than the dollar, they care about you and making you whole.

This is my first time ever giving a review, but because Matt Skipper was so helpful, I am writing this one. I needed guidance regarding my apartment lease and early termination. Matt was very knowledgeable and patient. He provided excellent advice and, as a result, I was able to get out of my lease without issues. Very highly recommend Matt!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Crofton, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
