Jennifer Dayton worked with me. My future ex wife made false accusations of domestic abuse and was trying to get a protective order. I refused to just roll over and let her get away with it. Mrs Dayton was very clear how hard it is for a man to defend himself against such allegations and gave me no false hope. But she lessened to me and took her time with the preparation of my case and got the best results caught my wife in lie after lie by the time she was done getting the truth my wife’s lawyer didn’t even have a reason to question me. I couldn’t have been more impressed with her professionalism and expertise. Thank you Wampler and Souder and Mrs Dayton

I wouldn’t use them again, not proactive at all and gave bad advice at the start of the child custody case. Waste of $30k+ in my opinion. You have to constantly chase them to do stuff, they say they will do it and then don’t which puts you at a disadvantage and long term consequences. They are always on the back-foot at every step and then asking for more money to continue representing you because the used it all up putting out a fire. They are not upfront with expected costs of a case end or how to budget for one and will spring sudden demands for $10k to continue. If you have a child custody case or divorce where you are the defendant I would suggest you look elsewhere for a lawyer or more realistically, behave like adults and sit down and settle with your ex and stop feeding the family law pig…..

I worked through a legal matter with the aid of Jennifer's expertise. She explained my options along the way, made recommendations, and ultimately achieved the best possible outcome for my situation. Communication was excellent, and she entertained even my most left field questions with grace. I highly recommend this firm.

Ms. Dayton was great to work with. She was knowledgeable, understanding, and compassionate in handling a very delicate situation. She was responsive and advised me of all the risks and benefits of multiple strategies and supported me in my decisions while providing enough pressure to steer us towards a successful defense. Highly recommended.

I hired John to clear up title on my home so that I could sell it. As we learned more about the file, the work had to be modified. John communicated clearly, kept us informed and provided a good sense that he was treating us very fairly.

We went to John when we were about to lose our home to foreclosure. Not only was he able to stop the foreclosure, we were able to get caught back up on our mortgage in a Chapter 13 plan, and have been able to keep our family home. He explained everything to us in detail as the case moved forward and always told us what we could expect. He held our hands the entire way. We would recommend him to anybody facing the loss of their home.

Elizabeth is an outstanding lawyer. She thoroughly understands the legal and emotional process of separation and divorce and the impact on families and children. She is calm, firm, and very skillful in her approach to the process. She is also very patient as these matters sometimes take months and years to adjudicate. Furthermore, her fees are reasonable considering her expertise and the time involved. I feel lucky that she "hand held" me through my situation and was empathetic to the psychology of my former partner. She had a good handle on things from a financial and psychological standpoint and has the experience to adjust to the need of the client depending on the situation..ie, level of contention between estranged spouses. I highly recommend Elizabeth if you are in the process of seeking counsel and she is available. Good luck !

Responsive, professional, and affordable is how I'd describe our company's experience with Radiance. She kept us well informed during every step of our trademark process. Having worked with hourly attorneys in the past, I must admit I was a bit apprehensive about her flat rate billing, but I was totally impressed by the amount of time she invested in answering our questions down to the smallest detail. As a small business owner, it feels good to have a trusted advisor and strategic partnership [like Radiance] in our corner. We've already begun referring her to our fellow small business owners.

Radiance IP Law is excellent! This is no ordinary firm. Radiance understands the constraints of startups and she is good at quickly finding solutions. She responded quickly to all my questions and went out of her way to make time to walk me through complex issues. My company is better off for having met Radiance. She has my highest recommendation.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Frederick, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
