I am a teacher and Mr. Smith is on our union list for a 1 time free consultation. I guess it's true you get what you pay for - although my union probably reimburses him the 1 hour at a reduced rate. My issue was a tenant issue and Mr. Smith wasn't even aware of the "Protecting Tenants at Foreclosure Act of 2009" which is easily googled. He went on to casually talk about his friend's experience and told me I should move. He spent less then 10 minutes with me - a total waste of my time.

Unfortunately, Mr. Smith didn't perform any of the usual duties one would expect from a custody lawyer. I was even told so after the fact by several reputable family law lawyers in the state of MD. He went to trial very unprepared. He didn't know the facts of the case, wouldn't use my witnesses (even though they were eager to testify), wouldn't use journal entries and data collected proving neglect by the other parent, incriminating evidence against the other party, etc... Worst yet, he asked my wife if I had a son or a daughter upon arrival the morning of the trial! Then, he tried billing me double... including billing me for services he did not perform. He didn't even tell me the outcome of my case within the 10 day window of time required for me to appeal the decision! It was a total mess, and a total disregard for due process. I regret to say I learned the hard way about MR. Smith and his ability, or lack there of, when handling custody cases. Maybe this will help others?
