Kraig Kibble is an incredibly knowledgable, honest, hardworking, diligent, and professional family law attorney. I interviewed/consulted two other attorneys/law offices, prior to hiring Kraig, and from the moment I sat down in the conference room with him, I knew I had found my attorney. Over the past seven months, Kraig has advised and helped me through one of the most challenging situations of my life - a move away, custody case with my daughter. This custody case was so emotional and stressful and I am beyond grateful and appreciative of Kraig's legal expertise and guidance during this challenging time. Kraig was readily available to speak via phone or to meet face to face. He filed all paperwork in a timely manner and met and conferred with the opposing party, when necessary. Kraig responded to all emails immediately and with clear, concise responses. Kraig is one of the most calm, thorough, and detailed individuals I have ever met, and his vast knowledge and understanding of family law is nothing short of amazing! What impressed me the most, however, was Kraig's professionalism, calm demeanor, and presence in court. During my two day trial, I was so confident and calm in the courtroom with Kraig by my side, as my legal representation. Please do not hesitate to hire Kraig and this law firm, as you will be so incredibly thankful you did! Lastly, on a clerical note, the monthly billing statements are always accurate, clear, and easy to understand. It was reassuring to know exactly where my legal fees were going each and every month.

I met with Kraig seeking full custody of my daughter and a restraining order. He helped me win my domestic violence restraining order which included sole child custody orders. I have been dealing with this for so many years that I was overjoyed to finally find a lawyer who was able to help me not only win, but also get the maximum number of years protection. In the past I tried to obtain a restraining order with another lawyer and the judge did not grant all of my requests. Kraig advised me to hold off on the restraining order until I had strong evidence. When I did have enough strong evidence he put together a solid case and all my evidence was admitted and I won the hearing. Kraig spent countless hours working with me going back and forth with phone calls and emails because there were so many incidents involving my ex. When I was at a complete loss I had Kraig to call and get me through. He was able to go to an emergency ex parte hearing that we found out about that day. I didn't have to leave work for another court hearing. It was such a blessing to find the legal support I desperately needed from Kraig at the Law office of Makupson and Howard.

Makupson and Howard's lawyer, Kraig Kibble, represented me for the last 6 months in a very complex and heart wrenching family law case regarding child and spousal support modification. I'm giving them 5 stars because they work from a place of integrity and extreme diligence- Kraig's style is soft, yet assertive-calm, yet strong- aggressive, yet fair- persistent yet non intrusive-I truly enjoyed working with him through the most difficult of times for me personally. I felt secure knowing that I had such a dignified and intelligent lawyer, on my side, representing me. Without Kraig, and the firm's advisory support, I would not have resolved this case in a manner that is beneficial and acceptable to both myself and my ex wife. Thanks to Kraig and everyone else at Makupson and Howard!

I would like to highly recommend Kraig Kibble as a Family Law attorney. Without going into too much detail, I had a pretty rough experience with my case before going to him and I'm telling you, I must have met with like 5 other attorneys to consult about my options before I chose to go with Kraig. And he was the first one I felt actually listened to me at the consult and did not make me feel like my worth was wrapped up in how much of a retainer I could come up with. He validated me as I discussed my concerns about past matters and needs going into the new court date. He was open to listening but also very professional about helping me to understand how I could help out too and how to best deal with the other party in the matter. At the actual hearing, I must commend his work ethic. I arrived and he was already there and clearly preparing and reviewing the court documents. I never doubted that he was ready to represent me. I bring this up because I have had this fear in the past with other lawyers and actually felt I had to prep them and remind them of things before the hearing because they actually admitted they didn't read items I had sent them that were very important. Not so with Kraig and once our case was called, he was so very professional and knew his stuff and seemed to care that my child got the best result in his best interest. And we did. I am so happy with Kraig for he is great representation in this arduous and stressful thing that is family law. It's never easy but it is more comfortable when you know someone qualified has your back. I would highly recommend Kraig over and over again and I will to anyone I know who might have need in the future.

If you are looking for a Family Law Attorney, you have found him! Kraig L. Kibble, a Family Law Attorney at Law Offices of Makupson & Howard represented me and he did an amazing job. He took the time to meet with me, reviewed all of the information I gave him to help me win my child custody case. He answered all of my questions and concerns and always guided me to focus on what was important. He reviewed my case thoroughly that he was able to finish my sentences when I brought up a topic I was concerned about. This reinforced that I was in good hands. He treated my son and I as people and I felt he really cared about the outcome of my case and he was not only there looking to get paid. I thank him with all my heart for being honest with me and giving it his all to help win my case and getting full custody of my child. I had previously paid another attorney a retainer fee and this money was gone before we even went to court and she still sent me an additional bill. She deceived me and told me she was going to do certain things for my case and she never did. A few days before my hearing, I met with her and she still had not reviewed my case after I had sent her information she requested weeks before. She showed up to court late and unprepared. Luckily the judge granted the other party more time and extended the court date. If I had stayed with this attorney, I would have definitely lost my case. Unfortunately there are people out there that care more about the money than to help out families in need. Kraig was the second attorney I worked with and after paying the first attorney I was concerned that more money would go to waste, as my resources were limited. However I am so glad I took a chance and I am so thankful I met Kraig L. Kibble. I will definitely be working with him in the future if there is a need to return to court. Having to go to court alone is an extremely stressful process especially when you are looking out for your child/children’s best interest. Rest assured that you will be in good hands.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hollywood, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
