I knew GEICO was not giving me fair compensation for my injuries as I was ambulanced to the hospital on a back brace after 2 GEICO insured motorist slammed into the side of my car while I was waiting for a red light. Bob intervention in my case yielded me over 4 times the offer by GEICO. I am glad I did not settle. Bob was truly genuine about me and not just the case. I highly recommend him to anyone.

My fiance and I were hurt in a car crash and Geico low-balled us so Clark and Steinhorn put it into a lawsuit and got a nearly 50% increase in offer to settle the case. Clark and Steinhorn negotiated reductions in outstanding medical bills and the health insurance lien to assist me in the recovery process. During this very tough time, Clark and Steinhorn provided us with access to a wealth of industry knowledge and experience. They were both prompt and sensitive in addressing any concerns during the entire process. We hopefully will never need their services again, but I definitely appreciated the professional demeanor of Clark and Steinhorn.

I was involved in an auto accident, and hired a different attorney who i felt after several meetings wasn't listening or working as hard as he could have for me, so I met with Mr. Clark of Clark and Steinhorn and instantly decided to fire my other attorney and hire Mr. Clark. He kept me up to date on everything going on with my case, we had several meetings and anytime I needed him for anything he was there to answer any questions. The other insurance question only felt I was entitled to $1,000 settlement, it was no where close to a number we were happy with, Bob was able to get them to settle for $22,500 after filing suit. We were able to keep it out of court, and get a number I was comfortable with. I couldnt have done without them. I would highly recommend this firm to anyone needing legal help.

Mr. Clark was of great assistance when my son was injured in an automobile accident. He helped us work through the case and the complex interplay of insurance coverage issues culminating in a fair settlement. We were more than satisfied.

Bob Clark represented me with my Maryland Workmen’s Comp Claim for nearly 19 years. My case was one of the longest and most complex. I was injured 1/30/90 while working for an electrical contractor. Bob initially represented me while he was employed by another firm. Bob left that firm some 4 years after my injury to start his current private practice. While I was excited to see this very caring individual go out on his own, I was left with his previous employer for my legal representation. It wasn’t long before I truly appreciated Mr. Clark’s expertise and knowledge of workmen’s compensation laws in contrast to those who were now representing me. I became frustrated and called Mr. Clark (his staff or himself always received my phone calls) and asked if he would consider representing me again in his private practice with the same workmen’s comp claim. Mr. Clark agreed and our relationship continued another fourteen years as he assured me that a fair and reasonable settlement would eventually happen. I must add that my injury required nine serious back surgeries which Mr. Clark was tirelessly advocating for me and my welfare. I can attest it was always a great feeling (even when not feeling well) that Mr. Clark was truly in my corner. It did take time for me to reach a maximum medical improvement status while still rated with a significant disability; however, Mr. Clark was able to negotiate a final compromise settlement agreement with the workmen’s compensation carrier. Through a 19 year 11 month journey with a lot of pain and suffering my faith sustained me which gave me the confidence to trust Mr. Clark with my future. I received so much more than just legal counsel, I found a new friend in Bob who cared about me and my family. Through those years, we would share not only information about the injury, but also about our families and the things that really mattered to us. Many people aren’t aware that most attorneys don’t welcome the long drawn out workmen’s comp cases. Most attorneys are in business for their just compensation which communicates to billable hours rendered. However, the workmen’s compensation commission will set the award for the attorney upon final settlement which never calculates to their hourly rate. I’ve often wondered just how many hours Bob and his staff worked on my case. Time didn’t matter, only doing what was right for me, was what mattered to Bob. I would continually apologize to him because I knew he would never be justly compensated for his time, yet he never saw the money loss, he always saw my needs for my future with a lifetime care plan and for me to be fairly compensated for the injury I sustained 1/30/90. Thanks to Bob, the claim settled 11/30/09 and because of his knowledge my needs were met. Bob’s a professional with serious convictions. He would never recommend that a client take the “carrot on the stick”. My story and experience with Bob Clark is as real as it gets. I’ll forever be grateful to him and his staff. Bob celebrates victories not with zero’s and decimal points but with knowing that he put forth his best effort which ultimately yields the best results, simply by his persistence and convictions. He’s truly refreshing in this world today. I’ve found that when I know that I know something- that’s when I really know! I really know that I have a wonderful friend in Bob Clark, as well as a great attorney.

Mr. Cecil- Wanted to take this time out not only to thank you for all that you have done for us, all your hard work, especially through Covid, we want to thank you. Also we want to thank you for assigning to us a wonderful person, we really appreciated Jennifer McCartney, what a gem! we really cared for your kindness and dealing with us in our stressful situation. Every time we needed help or direction she was there to aid us. There were times when our mood wasn't the best, yet Jennifer always stayed composed and very helpful and showed us the up most respect. Also one thing we were most impressed about, when she couldn't give a direct answer and had to refer to you as our lawyer, we found that so refreshing, she didn't try to be a know it all, she new her place, but worked very hard and professional. We loved her honesty very much so. Both of you were a great team. She kept us in the loop in every aspect of Keith's case. And we knew this was not easy for her, especially when this landed in her lap. She right away introduced herself to us, and made us feel confident that things will be handle right, thought she came on the scene a little later. We loved how she handle the transition. She never made us feel that we weren't being taken care of-that meant a lot to us! We will be referring you to all our friends. And we pray and hope nothing like this happens again, but due to unforeseen occurrences we may have to use your services again, and we will! Thank you for all that Jennifer our sweet girl and you have done for us. Keith & Tammy Manago

Robb Cecil and his staff were of great help to me in explaining the law as it applied to my case; dealing with auto and health insurance companies; and recovering costs expended following an auto accident I did not cause that totaled my car and sent me to surgery. His knowledge and experience assured me that I could turn over my case to him with confidence. He and his staff kept me informed, notifying me of developments as needed, responding to my calls promptly, and advocating on my behalf when required. I was pleased with the outcome of my case and have already referred a friend to him for assistance after he was struck by a car. I will continue to refer people to him and will use him again myself if needed.

I worked with McGowan & Cecil when I had a car accident and I couldn’t be happier with the service or the outcome. Mr. Cecil and his paralegal, Indira, were so pleasant to work with. They always kept me informed of the status of my case and were very responsive when I had any questions or concerns. They handled everything and made it so easy on me. The outcome of my case exceeded my expectations and I know it’s because of the work Mr. Cecil and Indira did on my case. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing an injury lawyer!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Laurel, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
