Attorney Angel Cambell & Attorney Sobel were my family’s dream team. Angel was absolutely remarkable to say the least. She was extremely patient with our many questions and phone calls. She did her due diligence with a level of compassion that is hard to find these days. Angel & Mr. Sobel allowed God to use them to turn things around and get my family member home 4 weeks after sentencing. They looked at my family member as an individual and not just a number. Angel knows the law and is remarkably professional, if you want the absolute best; then look no farther. I must also add that their entire staff is amazing (Aura, Stephanie and the rest of their team)! This was one of the most devastating times in my family’s life and every interaction with the entire staff at James Crawford law firm were kind and did everything they could to comfort us and advocate to get my loved one home as fast as possible.

Being young and unknowledgeable of the workings of the court system Matthew thumser and his incredible team made an incredible impact. Not only in educating me but also in guiding me every step of the way. With easy access to him and his legal team working aside him it made a tough situation so much easier and reduced stress. I knew the moment he walked through the door for our consultation that he was the man for the job. Never once and even til this day do I doubt him or his ability to successfully bring his clients peace. He gets to the point while also showing understanding and lending an ear. If you need someone confident, straight to the point, and well organized Matthew is 100% your guy. Thank you.

This past year, we sought legal expertise and guidance from the Law Office of James Crawford, Jr. & Associates. Jason Nguyen, a Managing Attorney at the firm, and Cordell Rose, a Legal Assistant, were assigned to our case. In working with Jason, we found him to be accessible, knowledgeable, responsive, and results-oriented. He is a great listener and communicator who kept us abreast of the case each step of the way. He took great care to explain complex legal information, showed great patience, and consistently demonstrated his commitment to our case and our desired outcome. Like Jason, Cordell was very responsive, steady, and organized. He always answered our questions in a timely matter and demonstrated friendly professionalism throughout the process. Thanks to Jason’s management and leadership and Cordell’s support, we achieved a favorable and desired outcome in the case. In light of all of this, we recommend you reach out to Jason and the Law Office of James Crawford, Jr. & Associates for your legal needs. Carol

Was served with a bogus Peace Order by a very nasty, vindictive neighbor and was give 4 days to appear, two of which were a Saturday and a Sunday. Texted Friday night. Received a text and a call from Zach Saturday and they were working on a gameplan by Sunday. We went to court Tuesday morning and won. Would recommend this firm. All of the employees I interacted with were responsive, helpful and compassionate.

Mi experiencia con esta firma fue inicialmente difícil, trabajé con muchos abogados y el inglés no es mi primer idioma. Pero luego vinieron George y Aura, quienes finalmente me hicieron sentir comprendido y estuvieran luchando por mí. Recomendaría a George y Aura a cualquiera. My experience with this firm was initially rocky, I worked with many attorneys, and English is not my first language. But then came George and Aura who finally made me feel understood and like they were fighting for me. I would recommend George and Aura to anyone. They got me the best result in my divorce and custody case. I am going to finally see my children again after a year of not seeing them which I will eternally be grateful for. Words cannot express how thankful I am for Aura who was there throughout my whole process and helped ease my nerves. She always kept me informed and provided me with the translation I needed to understand this process. She helped advocate for me and provided me with understanding of the process, patience, and comfort. George and Aura worked great together and and as soon as they took over my case they helped me feel better. George was made to be an attorney. I would recommend him to anyone. He came prepared and got me the result I was looking for. I am happy with both and the result they got me.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Linthicum, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
