“Very reasonable fee for my separation agreement and divorce. I highly recommend him.”
Cons
1
Can be intimidated by opposing counsel and fail to adequately advocate for the client
“He was completely intimidated by opposing counsel, repeatedly failed to address issues that could have been presented in my favor, had to be reminded of laws and regulations by myself, and failed to file documentation that allowed me to be subject to further legal action.”
2
Lacks preparation and appears weak in court
“In court in front of the judge he came across as very unprepared and weak.”

I hired Jeremiah to represent me for a post divorce issue. He allowed the opposing counsel to control the narrative and rule the courtroom. Jeremiah objected to “nothing.” It appears that he knows nothing about the law. The legal profession is definitely not for him.

Having to go through a divorce and custody can be intimidating and very stressful. I hired a lawyer that was compassionate, thorough and very fair with cost. The beginning of my car to the end he was very informative and explained the legal process for me to understand because I don’t know law; as most clients. I can’t understand how these other cases or reviews have him poor ratings because nobody wins every single time they go to court. When I explained my situation and what I wanted he advised me that it was unreasonable and that the courts won’t grant my opinion or wants. And by the time court arrived; he was exactly right in every process and advice he gave me. I am very confident that the agreement we came up with will prevent ANY future litigation for my kids. Which is what’s best. If you need counsel you can’t go wrong with Jeremiah. Excellent prices and representation!!

Jeremiah has returned my calls promptly - which can't be said about a lot of attorneys. And willing to collaborate, not just dictate as the "expert". Able to tailor his conversation to the level of knowledge the client already possesses. Not the sort of guy who just wants to "run up the meter". As it turned out, we did not for him to take action, but he'll be there next time if direct action does need to be taken.

Mr. Chiappelli truly is an incredible attorney!! He is compassionate, devoted, fair, and extremely reasonable with cost and consideration with fees. He also was pretty firm and aggressive when warranted. I was dealing with divorce, child- support and interstate custody and visitation. He was able to put the ball in my court and I obtained everything I sought from the other side. Every step of the case was productive- from start to finish; it was all done in only 7 months!! If your looking for representation; you cannot go wrong with this Firm!! I cannot speak highly enough! This attorney clearly has his heart invested in helping people in legal duress.

Recently hired this lawyer to handle my divorce and custody case. His work on my case was shoddy at best. He was completely intimidated by opposing counsel, repeatedly failed to address issues that could have been presented in my favor, had to be reminded of laws and regulations by myself, and failed to file documentation that allowed me to be subject to further legal action. In court in front of the judge he came across as very unprepared and weak. Would not recommend hiring this lawyer to anyone for any reason.

Mike Dausch guided me through working my Uncle's estate, which was challenging, and has subsequently set up wills and estate planning for others in my family. He is patient, very knowledgable, and helped make a diifficult process easier.

When I was a party in a lawsuit, I had several attorneys available to represent me. I chose Patrice and one of her colleagues, and I requested that Patrice take the lead in the representation. My confidence in Patrice was well-founded. Patrice was a zealous advocate on my behalf, and she won the case. Patrice is a skillful and determined litigator, and she is resolute in seeking the best possible result for her clients. I highly recommend Patrice.

I needed help handling my late mother's estate and navigating the myriad and byzantine forms and processes for going through the state's probate court. Erica and her office were knowledgeable, timely, and efficient in helping my family and I move through the process, and were very openly communicative about our progress throughout. I can highly recommend her if you are looking for help with handling estate-related issues.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Pasadena, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
