After being wrongly pursued by a government agency for a significant sum in back taxes I was recently informed by Ms. Kundra that the charges were rescinded. I cannot express my appreciation enough for the dogged effort by the folks at Kundra & Associates in this matter. They are professional yet practice a comforting guidance; they are aggressive, informed, and well respected, yet never arrogant. Their effort to clear me of the charges was unwavering and, ultimately, successful. I could not have been better served.

I sought her legal help. My case (according to her) was not complex, and when asked during consultation I was told that a resolution plan will be provided within the estimated cost expenditure. After months of invoicing, charging a lot of fees, no plan was provided instead more money was asked. I had to give several reminders, to provide me a work product other than just receiving invoices. It was disheartening to experience such poor customer service and misleading of a client. The work product when provided had mistakes with several incorrect statements. With such a terrible experience, a lot of money charged no concrete result, I had to end the agreement. Even during closure more money was charged in invoices for work that was very bad and questionable.

We hired Chaya and her team to help us navigate through complex tax issues and are glad to have her on our team. She has become a partner in our success and we will continue to seek counsel from Kundra & Associates as we grow and adapt to the changing tax laws.

My first meeting with Ms. Chaya Kundra sealed the deal. I wanted a top-flight advocate in my corner and Ms. Kundra is exactly that. She was recommended to me by my long-time family attorney who knew she was highly thought of by her peers. She is extremely knowledgeable about current tax law and just how it’s applied. On the federal side, she knows how to deal with the key players and wouldn’t relent until we won. She provided an accurate timeline I could live with. If you have a conflict with the State of Maryland, buckle up. You will need a staunch ally and excellent attorney in your corner. Ms. Kundra is exactly that. At the lawyer to lawyer level, she was magic. She speaks their language persuasively. It’s hard to describe the feeling of freedom my wife and I had when the case was resolved. I couldn’t have had a better outcome.

I highly recommend Ms. Chaya Kundra and the team at Kundra & Associates for any tax issue you might have. Out of the blue, I received what was to me a frightening letter from the Comptroller of Maryland with little time to respond. I contacted the comptroller’s office but couldn’t get much information. Stressed and concerned, I reached out to Kundra & Associates for help. What a relief! From the very first call, I could tell that everyone at Kundra & Associates is extremely competent as well as personable: warm, friendly, and compassionate. Ms. Kundra is fantastic. She listened carefully to everything I said. Then, she clearly explained the issues, exactly what steps she would take, and what roadblocks might come up, all in language that was easy for me to understand. I could feel the weight leave my shoulders the first time we spoke. I was thrilled to have her on my side, fighting for me. Ms. Kundra is fast and effective. This was the first time I had ever hired an attorney and it really was a fantastic experience. I absolutely recommend Kundra & Associates.

Mr. Banks was both knowledgeable and responsive to my legal needs. Mr. Banks is by far the best Attorney in the Washington Metropolitian area. He is a Harvard University graduate which in my opinion speaks for it's self! I was proud and tranquil while my case was open due to the diligent works of Mr. Banks.

I would highly recommend Robert Baum to represent anyone going through a divorce. After my disappointing experience with a previous attorney, who mishandled my case from the start, I contacted Bob with the hopes of getting an experienced and seasoned divorce attorney. Boy did I make the best selection!! He was always available and knowledgeable with all of my legal options. My case was especially volatile, with many twists and turns along the way yet Bob was up for every challenge I faced. In the end, I was awarded everything I deserved. Bob provided quality legal services and knew the law. His experience with litigation was especially gratifying! Bob makes you feel like you're his only case! Thank you again Bob for everything you've helped me through Now that its finally over, I feel like my good friend is moving away. You cant find a better person.

Bob is an amazing lawyer I would recommend him any day. He helped me bring my daughter back home after she was not returned from her visitation. He is a hard working person and has integrity which you don’t see very often in lawyers. I am glad we found him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rockville, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
