September 29, 2024 Dear Mr. Eric Wexler, Esq. Meeting you in your office on September 26, 2024 was indeed a breath of fresh air to my occupied mind with my situation. My experience in your office started first by receiving a very warm and friendly welcome greetings offered by two of your professionally mannered Staff-Ladies which was telling me a lot about the existence of a very friendly and professional administrative setup in your office. I had arrived earlier than my appointment time and was sitting in your office waiting-room that you put the key onto the office entry door-lock, opened it and seeing me sitting there, you walked right towards the chair I had sat on with a warm welcoming smile on your face rather than rushing right into your office. We shook hands and exchanged some short icebreaker friendly conversation with each other and then you walked away going into your office. I liked those friendly gestures a lot. Shortly after, I was escorted to your office. After getting to know about my overall problem which was almost sketchy because of the time laps, you engaged me with a series of interesting methodical questioning about my situation and continued with probing into my almost over four decades old memories which I was frankly thinking that you would be looking to find a needle in a haystack. With a promising and encouraging sign on your face, you continued with your probing for finding any additional clues while kept revising your arithmetic’s workout upon each one of your additional findings and came up with a great plan of action at the end that I felt all so comfortable with it. I can't thank you enough for that. I do appreciate your deep knowledge and expertise in the field that I needed legal help with. Sincere, Ata Baybordi

This is the first year I’ve worked with Eric Wexler for my tax preparation and I could not be more pleased. Eric was super helpful in guiding me through the impact of the new tax law on my personal tax filings. His staff were also extremely courteous and patient. As an attorney and CPA, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the table and he is extremely patient with new clients like myself.

My husband and I were having a rather bizarre issue with our S-Corporation and The State of Maryland and we needed to speak with a tax attorney. When I explained our issue, Eric listenened and gave me a few options to consider. There was no "sales pitch" to get us into his office. In fact, Eric offered to talk to our accountant to help us make the best choice! After speaking with our accountant, the option that we chose did not give Eric any immediate business. I was so impressed that he simply helped us. Obviously I cannot attest to working with him, but I can attest to his friendly, frank and knowledgeable consultation!

I had fallen way behind in paying taxes due to health problems and after trying to work with three other cpa's I had given up hope of finding someone who would be willing to do the work to get me up to speed. It did take work as my paperwork was a mess (part of why I had fallen behind). I found Eric on Avvo and I just got a good feel from his website. I was sold after talking with him. It's been a lengthy process but I made my first payment on an offer in compromise just before writing this review. The process will be completed before the end of the year-all thanks to Eric and his staff. I've hired him on as my attorney/cpa for the rest of my life (:)) and he now helps me stay on top of things-just what I need. He was realistic yet offered optimism and made navigating this process human-a rare feat these days when people become merely a commodity of a process about the bottom line. Eric seems to know about the benefit of attending to the whole person, taking time to explain complex processes yet keeping it simple when need be. Thank you Eric and your staff for all you have done. I am forever grateful!

My family is going to be moving to the US in the near future and so I had a few financial questions regarding the transfer of their money the best way possible. Mr. Wexler responded to my online question with a prompt call and answered my questions without having to set up an appointment to meet in person. This shows me that he is not driven by money, but rather, by helping me. If I decide in the future that I need more clarification or if I have more questions, Mr. Wexler is the first Attorney I am going to call.

Mr. Banks was both knowledgeable and responsive to my legal needs. Mr. Banks is by far the best Attorney in the Washington Metropolitian area. He is a Harvard University graduate which in my opinion speaks for it's self! I was proud and tranquil while my case was open due to the diligent works of Mr. Banks.

I hired Mr. Morris to handle a very complex real estate transactional matter. He met all of my objections. His fee was fair and reasonable. I would hire him again.

I would highly recommend Robert Baum to represent anyone going through a divorce. After my disappointing experience with a previous attorney, who mishandled my case from the start, I contacted Bob with the hopes of getting an experienced and seasoned divorce attorney. Boy did I make the best selection!! He was always available and knowledgeable with all of my legal options. My case was especially volatile, with many twists and turns along the way yet Bob was up for every challenge I faced. In the end, I was awarded everything I deserved. Bob provided quality legal services and knew the law. His experience with litigation was especially gratifying! Bob makes you feel like you're his only case! Thank you again Bob for everything you've helped me through Now that its finally over, I feel like my good friend is moving away. You cant find a better person.

Bob is an amazing lawyer I would recommend him any day. He helped me bring my daughter back home after she was not returned from her visitation. He is a hard working person and has integrity which you don’t see very often in lawyers. I am glad we found him.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rockville, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
