I’ve known Bill for several years. He’s a great guy! I had the opportunity to use him as an attorney recently. His prices were very reasonable and he put a lot of effort into and did a great job for us. There was a lot of concerns I wasn’t aware of, and he handled them all with ease. We were gradually transferring ownership of my business over from myself to my general manager, I’ve had friends use Bill for other things and everybody has been extremely pleased . I highly recommend Bill Henry for any of your legal needs.

A family member recently received two underage drinking citations within a few month period. The close proximity of the charges threatened to leave a permanent record that could be a burden to the client's reputation and advancement for years. In this somewhat unusual case, Bill Henry proposed a creative solution to the Court that was accepted and ultimately resulted in the complete dismissal and expungement of all charges. Bill's ongoing timely communication to multiple Maryland state officials and to us, his clients, was exemplary. We were continuously updated by phone, email, and in personal meetings, as to the status of all proceedings. We felt that we were receiving the care and expert service that clients with much larger cases (and budgets for legal services) might expect. Bill is an attentive, articulate problem-solver whose energetic attention to the details of the case was remarkable -- and he handled every aspect personally, never delegating even basic administrative tasks to others. As a young person, the client required an attorney who could not only handle the legal tasks, but could be reassuring and encouraging through this frightening brush with the legal system. We will engage Bill Henry, if future needs arise, and will highly recommend him. We want to express our gratitude for Bill's hard work and his steady commitment to his client.

I have worked with mr Henry twice on two different cases. The first was my fathers estate It was a very sticky mess and required knowledge of all different aspects with properties under water and extreme debt. However mr Henry handled the estate well and everything worked out so well. He gave the best advice and broke down all the legal jargon for me to better understand my options. The second was my own will he did it for my husband and I and did a great job. Of course it was done well and fast! He is a great lawyer and person. I highly recommend him.

My family has had the pleasure of using Bill Henry for multiple legal matters over the past 13 years. He has efficiently handled divorces, wills, powers of attorney, motor vehicle accident settlements, estates, property issues (both in Maryland and out of state), and provided other legal advice. I have already recommended him to friends and co-workers and will continue to do so. In all he does, Bill keeps his client's interests first - which is saying something in a difficult economy. He's NEVER tried to increase billable hours needlessly, and offered solutions to minimize out of pocket expenses... this on top of him really being a down to Earth nice guy makes him a go to lawyer in my opinion. As an observation though, if you're looking for a big office, with multiple levels of receptionists and lots of staff, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a very good lawyer who will work hard for your interests while keeping your expenses manageable, you can't do better than Bill Henry.

Melanie an inspiring attorney! She has a passion for law which I don't think I have ever seen. She loves what she does and always has her clients best interest in mind. I wouldn't want any other person on my side. She fights for what is right and just! I loved working with her and watching her kick butt in court!

Mr. Banks was both knowledgeable and responsive to my legal needs. Mr. Banks is by far the best Attorney in the Washington Metropolitian area. He is a Harvard University graduate which in my opinion speaks for it's self! I was proud and tranquil while my case was open due to the diligent works of Mr. Banks.

We were in a situation that we needed to back out a real estate contract signed without the full knowledge of the property, but the deceiving seller threatened to pursue damage far beyond earnest money deposit (EMD) Before talking to Jonathan Bromberg, we consulted with two other lawyers, paid initial consultation fees. Neither offered any constructive opinions but had no problem representing us with additional fees. Without much hope left, we sought help from Jonathan Bromberg. When we met with Jonathan, he was fully prepared and was honest with our situation. With his experience and competence, he was able to find grounds to defend us. Our case finally resolved itself with the seller taking the EMD. Our experiences with Jonathan was absolutely positive. We felt lucky to have met him. I would not hesitate to have Mr. Bromberg representing us in the future if needed.

I would like everyone to know that because of Mr Bromberg's knowledgeable guidance and advice the John Hancock Insurance company approved my mothers Assisted Living insurance for Riderwood retirement community after denying it for one year. Furthermore, John Hancock has now agreed to make it retroactive to one year ago. This is a huge burden off my family.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rockville, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
