Mr Felsen negotiated a seldom used special plea agreement for me. As others have said, he’s an incredible attorney. He will work his butt off for your case. I highly recommend this man.

Showed up in person at 7 locks on one of the worst mornings of my life. Got me outta jail, then off house arrest, and then negotiated a favorable plea agreement.

Mr. Felsen was absolutely amazing! He went over and beyond his call of duty for me, ended up taking on an additional surprise case, and stepped in for my bond hearing. He worked over the weekend to ensure my needs were met for my cases. He even delivered our evidence to the court room in a snowstorm for the next day. Mr. Felsen gave me both the pros and cons to each decision that would be made on my end. He was a diamond in a rough. I wasnt just another number to him. I could tell he truly cared. He also is a monster in the court room and knows law very well. He knows when to be aggressive. My situation is very weird and was a challenging one, but he came through and won our cases. He even visited me while I was incarcerated on a Sunday and he spoke with the Commissioner at 12:30 AM unexpectedly for a different case he wasnt planning on working on. Mr. Felsen truly cares and is passionate about what he does that is what sets him apart from the millions of Attorneys out here. He will fight to the end for you. I am so grateful to have had him because I knew he would be fully transparent and give it to me straight. I would highly recommend calling Mr. Felsen for your representation needs.

I have worked with Mr. Berman for over 2 years and through out my case journey I found him very knowledgeable and helpful. The biggest thing was when no one thought my case had a potential to win, it was Mr. Berman who had the confidence that we have a solid case and can win. His vision and trust was truly commendable. He was always there to assist me and was very patient in making me understand what to expect at every step of the case. He prepared me well for all kinds of outcomes the case could have. I would definitely recommend Mr. Berman for everyone.

I cannot recommend Shawn C. Whittaker highly enough. Not only is he a very well-respected litigator by his peers (especially in real estate, condominium, and HOA law; he is admitted in DC, MD, and VA), he is keenly intelligent and has a phenomenal memory. He also gets high marks for being ethical, fair, humane, and generous with his knowledge, experience, and time. He extended help to me and respected my deadline by promptly responding to my emails and phone calls, reviewing a letter I had written to an adversarial attorney, and allowing me to CC him on it BEFORE asking for a dime or retainer agreement, all of which convinced me to retain him over three other lawyers. He's truly one-of-a-kind and a powerful credit to the profession. Other lawyers would do themselves a favor by emulating him in every respect.

Michael Bruckeheim is an amazing attorney and makes you feel like a friend rather than a client. I knew he was an excellent choice from the start as he spent over two hours on the phone with me on a Saturday morning. He was straightforward about all the possible outcomes of the case, which I really appreciate. He also gave me some courses prior to my court date which really helped my case. In the end, I had my charges greatly reduce and Mr. Bruckheim was a calming influence throughout the whole process. I would highly recommend Mr. Bruckheim!

Michael Bruckheim was nothing short of fantastic through out my entire legal process. I was a first time offender so I had no idea what the process was going to be and he always had that in mind as he guided me through all of the obstacles we faced. I always felt comfortable and knew I was in a good position because of the passion and commitment that he showed me during our very first meeting. I would absolutely recommend Michael to anyone who is looking for a lawyer that will answer any and all questions you have and really go to bat for you when the time comes in court! He laid out he best possible scenario for me on day 1 and that's exactly what we got in the end. I could not be more happy with my decision to hire Michael Bruckheim!

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rockville, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
