My husband just died. He left me various tasks to do for him. There is a problem that prevents me to do one of the tasks. It is about tax. I am not really sure who can I trust, who can I ask. I prayed hard for solution. Then one sleepless night, I was in the front of my computer. I googled " Tax Lawyer near me". The very first name came out was his. I read the reviews . He is their saint and savior! And then I thought he could be my savior too. I hit my keyboards and started to email him. I told him what bothers me. I sought for his professional advice... Hit send and went to sleep consoling and telling myself not to expect and that he may not waste his time to me. I was wrong, on the second day I got email from him saying " Please call me ". I was so surprised and relieved . He is very accommodating, professional and very straight forward . He taught me what to do and even guide me how to do my solution. He spent time and double checked if am doing it right. What a man! He doesn't know me but he accommodated me and didn't take anything in return. Since then, I spread the news. Telling anyone to get this lawyer if they will have problems in tax. Not all heroes wear capes !!

While it's clear to me that Kamyar deals with much larger cases than mine, he gave us every indication that our state and Federal tax concerns were of the highest priority to him. He has been so thorough, so proactive, so friendly and so helpful in every imaginable way, helping us navigate the process for offers-in-compromise. He made a potentially stressful situation so easy to navigate, ensuring our compliance with state and Federal regulations and arriving at a very desirable outcome, saving my family tens of thousands of dollars. We were amazed at the results and give him our highest recommendation and praise.

Mr. Goldberg helped me to receive the maximum settlement possible for an auto accident that left me injured. I was very fortunate to have found Jonathan Goldberg after having had a negative experience with a “highly advertised” attorney in the DC area. From the initial consultation until the final appointment to pick up my settlement check, I was never farmed out to an associate or paralegal. In every instance, he represented me and conducted himself with uncommon integrity and legal acumen. His skills were never more apparent than when I had the opportunity to watch him engage the defendants' counsel. He did so with the skills of an expert trial attorney and seasoned diplomat. I would not hesitate to ask Jonathan Goldberg to represent me again should the need arise.

This was my first time hiring an attorney and wasn't even sure if I needed one after a bad car accident. Jonathan walked me through the whole process, dealt with the stressful and annoying insurance companies/hospital bills, and even checked in to see how I was progressing and healing. I highly recommend him for personal injury cases. H reassured me through the stressful process and was able to secure a much higher than anticipated settlement. Do not go through the process alone, Jonathan was a very helpful and welcome asset!

I am extremely grateful to Jonathan Goldberg for his handling of our case. My family and I were involved in a serious accident in which several members of my family were injured. I could not be happier with how the case was handled and the outcome. Jonathan devoted so much time and personal attention, worked extremely hard, was available to answer questions, and kept us informed of the status throughout. I would highly recommend Jonathan Goldberg to anyone needing a lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Rockville, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
