Mr. Wescott’s services were highly recommend to me by a close friend. I was facing several felony charges, which carried significant jail time. Mr. Wescott was extremely knowledgeable and efficient in assisting me with my legal troubles. He was successful in concluding the matter, and I didn’t have to do any jail time. I would recommend him to anyone. He’s fairly priced, keeps you informed, and fights hard for his clients; he’s an excellent attorney.

He is a rather new and up in coming lawyer, He was recommended to me through a mutual friend, let me tell you I've used him twice for some heavy hitting charges. I had a very serious drug possession charge and then two years later I got an even more serious drug charge, I was caught with the worse drug in the eyes of the law some other drugs and paraphernalia. I am not saying what I did was right but that charge was the final straw so I went to rehab, he definitely had his work cut out for him I was facing 5 years easy. He was very encouraging with me getting treatment for my well being not just a defense strategy. And he didn't fill my head with false hope about me just getting off everything Scott free, he was realistic. And kept me informed every step of the way. So time for sentencing I was handed 18 months and it was suspended except a month and boom just like that there goes my job I had held for 10 years. Plus I was on a medication they wouldn't provide in jail that was corresponding with my treatment, he spoke with the judge and got it put down to a "work release-esque" type community services for the month so i was able to keep my fiancé and and my job and stay in treatment, if not I probably would of relapsed after I got out of jail or ended up doing my full 18 months with no probation. So that was the best case scenario that could of ever happened. It's all thanks to his compassion and ambition, wit and sheer brilliance. He is a fantastic lawyer.. He still calls me to this day to see how I am doing, I've been clean ever sense. He gave me a second chance that I wouldn't of gotten without him. I would have been stuck i the "revolving" door that getting caught in the system is. That I've seen happen to many times, I owe my sobriety and freedom to this maybe overlooked and underestimated lawyer Nathan long is. He is truly great and I owe my life To him. He wants to win, but he wants to help people more, so please if you need a criminal defense or any type of lawyer call Nathan long of Salisbury, you surely will be satisfied with his legal approach.

Mr. Badger helped us with a long distance sale of my mother's Maryland home that also involved a Specific Power of Attorney. In Mama's aging condition there were stop and go's with the transaction but Mr. Badger never lost his patience or became frustrated with her or the situation. He spoke to her with dignity and kindness, and we moved forward at her comfort level. He always returned my calls and emails in a timely fashion (a pet peeve of mine) and was never too busy to answer questions or explain something. When Mama passed he was so kind and helpful, as well as knowledgeable, with his advise to us. Having been a Realtor for 31 years, as well as my personal legal matters, I've had many, many dealings with attorneys and I would rank him among the top in terms of the delightful and rare combination of competence and compassion void of ego. I would highly recommend him and seek his services, if needed again, for all Maryland legal matters in his bailiwick! Thanks, Mr. Badger and God bless! Dorothy Kelly

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Salisbury, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
