They are FANTASTIC! I submitted an online inquiry regarding my son’s situation back in April and within 20min Max had called and had all the info pulled up on the case. After I retained their service Max and Luke made it over to the jail right away to see my son all in the same day! Long story short: Did they “Win” the case? YES. Misdemeanor Hangun in Vehicle/On person which carries some serious penalties and possible jail time in MD. Thanks to Max my son got a deal for 100hrs of community service. This case took about 4mos to resolve and Max was there every step of the way! Max and Luke are responsive, thorough and although I’m sure they have lots of cases they always make you feel like a priority. They value client+attorney relationships and are always a phone call or text away. I really like the fact that they are a small firm and you don’t have to jump through hoops and hurdles or wait days to communicate with them like some attorneys. There is no receptionist paralegal or middle man. Max and Luke are the direct source! If you can afford these guys- I say look no further. I hope to never have to use them again, but I would certainly recommend them in a heart beat. Thank you AGAIN Max and Luke! Ms. Stewart

I interviewed several attorneys to represent me in my divorce. When I met Troy D. Lowe in 2017, I knew my search was over. He was able to articulate why he would be the best option to secure the outcome that I desired and he did not fail me. My divorce took over two years to resolve and I NEVER felt like an invoice. Mr. Lowe understood that I was a single mom with two young children trying to make sense of a life that was suddenly turned upside down. If I needed to speak with him, I was always able to reach him by phone or email. He remained patient and professional even on days when I knew he had various challenges with other cases. Mr. Lowe did a phenomenal job of calibrating me as a client with sensitivity. He set realistic expectations and never mislead me about what was truly attainable. He brings a human element to the profession that is refreshing and truly appreciated. It was of the upmost importance that I walked away from my divorce with my children and dignity intact. Mr. Lowe delivered. He often said his goal was to ensure I’d be okay once the war was over and he sincerely meant it. Thirty days post-divorce, I am MORE than okay. Many thanks, Mr. Lowe...MANY thanks. If you are in need of legal representation, I strongly recommend Troy D. Lowe with The Law Firm of Gabriel J. Christian & Associates. I would not go into battle with anyone else.

In life trouble may come. You find you need representation that gives care and tenacity to bring justice for clients.I am the eldest and protector of large family and businesses. Dealt with assorted lawyers thru the years prior to Sheila Fleshman. We endured insurance cases in family, personal injury, accidents, criminal charges.Add in addition business law, which included all of the above and more.Sheila Fleshman will do her very best to represent someone in a way that our judicial system "should" operate. If you need an attorney you need her! If she ran for public office, she certainly would have my vote. Thank you Sheila Fleshman and may God Bless You

I was very satisfied with the services of Ms. Fleshman. I was involved in an auto accident that was caused by the other driver. Ms. Fleshman negotiated with the insurance company to get me the best possible settlement. She was very professional and knowledgeable when dealing with all the parties involved, and she kept me informed. I would recommend her to others as an excellent attorney.

Having a teenager driver is very worrisome. Mr. Farmer and his team really did a great job on my son’s case. They handled everything so fast and effective we didn’t even have to appear at court. Saved time and money.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Upper Marlboro, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
