My son was released from custody today. He served less than three months behind bars. I believe the only reason he is out is because of the representation he received from the Law Office of James E. Farmer. My son was a drug user who had no previous criminal history. What he did (and what he confessed to) was to drive a woman to his drug dealer and facilitate her purchase of one line of heron. She died later that night. My son was one of a group of eight drug users that State Attorney, Richard Fritz decided to prosecute for murder in the summer of 2017. This effort by Mr. Fritz was meant to demonstrate how tough he is on Fentanyl related drug overdose deaths in St. Mary’s county. Mr. Fritz will tell you his initiative had nothing to do with his current re-election bid. I believe Mr. Fritz’s actions to publicize his prosecutions including a nationally televised press conference with our governors say otherwise. Mr. Fritz charged my son with FIVE crimes: Second degree heart depraved MURDER, Manslaughter, Reckless Endangerment, Distribution and Possession. If convicted, he would be incarcerated for more than 20 years. Mr. Farmer and his team took my son’s case and aggressively pursued the facts. My son was represented by no less than three attorneys and a field investigator. Together, they worked with my son to present to the court the whole facts of his case. They were able to show: 1. That Fentanyl was NOT part of this crime 2. The woman did NOT die of a heroin overdose 3. The crime scene had narcotics of an unknown origin (i.e. did NOT come from my son) and they did NO investigation or follow up with that evidence. 4. That the state did NOT perform a proper autopsy What I did not know before this experience is that the State is under no obligation to present contrary evidence to the court at trial. I knew the court (and justice) is blind, but I was totally taken aback how easily the State Attorney can manipulate the presentation of evidence to make their case simply by omitting key elements. Mr. Farmer’s direct cross-examination of the state’s witnesses and evidence was the only thing that gave the court a true representation of the facts. Mr. Farmer’s penetrating and relentless cross of the State’s star witness, the guy who was supposed to ‘prove’ my son knew the heroin contained Fentanyl, was so damaging I actually felt sorry for him. It was clearly evident to everyone in the courtroom that he was not able to support the state’s assertions. Similarly, despite the State Attorney’s assertion that the death was ‘murder’, Mr. Farmer was able to get the coroner to admit that he listed the death as ‘accidental’. In the end, my son was convicted of the crimes he confessed to. I personally talked to one of the jury members about their deliberations. She told me that the murder, manslaughter and reckless endangerment charges were dismissed by the jury in less than five minutes. It took them two days to find my son guilty of the charges he had confessed to; possession and distribution. And, they only convicted because the law as is written gave them no other alternative. The State Attorney, Mr. Fritz will tell you that he was victorious and that justice was served. I will tell you, that without Mr. Farmer and his team of attorneys and investigators, my son would have be railroaded to prison, locked up for tens of years and his life destroyed. It is because of the hard work, courtroom experience, and bull dog mentality by the Law Office of James E. Farmer that my son has been given a second chance. I thank God for this group of dedicated professionals. If you find yourself in need of representation, I highly recommend Mr. Farmer and his team.

Before I went to the Law Office of James E. Farmer I went to talk to a different lawyer who told me to accept a charge I didn’t do. I’m happy I didn’t have him represent me and went to to another meeting here. Mr. Allen and Mr. Troxler were able to get everything thing drop and were excellent with how efficient they made the process. I learn life lessons so nothing like this will happen again. AMAZING. I initially spoke with Mr.Farmer in regards to my case and he was nothing but amazing. Very kind, very knowledgeable.
