Michael is an exceptional lawyer! I really thought my life was going to change in a negative way for a criminal charge that I received. This wasn't a DUI or DWI charge, and so please understand Michael's legal counsel goes much beyond what the firm he works at is known for. He made me feel relaxed and confident right in the beginning when we discussed my situation. And assured me everything was going to be fine and not to worry. Letting me know he was here to help. He even asked me how I was sleeping lately and said, "well tonight you you can start sleeping like a baby! Don't you worry, I got you." His experienced as a Maryland State Attorney certainly showed up in court by single handedly taking control of the courtroom. He even impressed the judge with how he handled business. After everything was put on record and approved by the judge, the judge expressed to Michael, "good job counsel!" Almost like the judge was reminiscing about himself when he was a lawyer and how he got the best outcome for his client. Do yourself a favor. If you need legal counsel for ANYTHING, hire Michael Berman. He won't disappoint.

I was in a single car accident where I wrecked my car. I was charged with DUI, DWI, reckless driving, transporting a minor, and barrage of other charges. First of all I would I like to thank the Office or Alpert Schreyer for appointing Michael Berman to be my attorney for this case. He was very communicative and made me feel comfortable and confident throughout the whole process. Now let’s get to it.. Michael Berman started by convincing the judge to grant a motion to suppress the fact that I refused to take the field sobriety test (which I didn’t even think was possible) in doing so, the officer couldn’t even state it in the case. He selected the jury with strategy and intention as if he were on trial himself. When the trial finally started, the show began. Immediately Michael Berman grabbed the attention of the court room, with his energy and delivery of the facts, the judge and jury were left in awe. Micheal was as confident and persuasive as he was knowledgeable. He destroyed the prosecution’s argument and absolutely shredded the officers testimony so much that he became a mere portion of himself. This case mirrored an episode of SUITS, during every break people trickled in to witness as if word had spread throughout the entire building. Michael Berman approached this case with knowledge and a swagger that can only be described as a real life Harvey Specter. Ultimately because of his experience and attention to detail, I was acquitted of all charges, fines, and tickets. I am CDL holder, so my license and job was on the line but because of the Office of Alpert Schreyer, especially Michael Berman, a burden has been lifted and I can live my life free to drive another day. I recommended 20 out of 10 stars. He went to bat for me, and I’m sure he’ll do the same for you!

I was charged with DUI. I am personally familiar with the partners of Michael’s firm, Alpert & Schreyer, and felt confident that they would be the most experienced and qualified attorneys to assist me during this very difficult situation. I truly believe the firm put their best man on my case. A consummate professional. Michael was indeed knowledgeable about the process I was engaging in and gave me clear direction regarding what I needed to do before going to court. He had personal relationships with the members of the court. It was obvious he was highly respected. Michael gave me excellent advice and went to court with me twice. At our second appearance, Michael met with the prosecutor and the charges against me were subsequently dropped. I do not know if another attorney could have been better in helping my case. Since this case I feel as though I have a second chance, something I didn’t think existed anymore. With lessons learned I am grateful for Michael and his team.

When I got my first DUI, Micheal was the man who walked me through all of my charges and the homework given to me was essential in mitigating my case from a jail-able offense to a year of unsupervised probation. Afterwards, any time I had a question regarding employment questions, he would respond in a timely manner with the correct information regarding your case to answer the questions honestly. I hired him a second time when I was charged with failure to remain at the scene and he told me in confidence that he would get my case dismissed and sure enough he did what he said. I put all my money on Micheal to get the job done every time!

I was in need of legal counsel and representation, so I did a Google search for personal injury lawyers. Out of hundreds of firms, I chose Alpert Schreyer, LLC, because my initial consultation with the firm was great. In my opinion, people don't help you if they don't hear you. After a week of making calls, stating my case, and being told, "Someone will call you," "I can't take your case," or ending the conversation without hearing me; I called Schreyer's office and they heard me to help me!

Ms.Dublin and the firm she represents have proven to be great ally's through and through. Time and time again Ms.Dublin has astonished me with the level of effort and dedication shes put into each and every single one of my court hearings. She has diligently worked and managed the many aspects of my case. Maintaining clear communication with the states attorney and myself. Her attention to detail is the only reason I was able rejoin my family's company. All and all her most astounding trait is her compassion. I'm so very appreciative of Ms.Dublin and the care and concern she invested in me and my family.

Ms. Dublin took a case for my son at the beginning of 2019. This was a long and difficult case which went through mental health court. What I appreciate so much about Ms. Dublin is her commitment to see things through to the end in what turned out to be a very favorable outcome for my son. Both my son and I couldn’t be more pleased.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Waldorf, Maryland?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
