Estate planning is natural extension of real estate law but a field in which our firm does not practice. Regularly, questions arise in the representation of a client that require the skillful eye of an estate planning attorney and in other instances, very simply, our clients have not contemplated and therefore have not thoroughly prepared for THE issue that no one wants to think about. In these instances, our firm always recommends Atty. Shumaker because very importantly, we know that when we hand over our clients to her, they will be well cared for as she is skilled, knowledgeable and thorough in her analysis.

I've worked with a number of attorneys during my career, and Attorney Shumaker separates herself from her peers, not only with her expertise, but with her warm personability. Her clients are treated as extended family, with her goal being to bring to fruition their anticipated expectations. Because each clients needs are specific to their individual situation, Attorney Shumaker takes the needed time to fully understand the situation/dynamics of each of her clients, befor presenting them with her legal solutions. She had exceeded my expectations, and because of this, I recommend her services to my own clients, as well as family.

My Mother has been a client of Tricia's for 5 years now, and I have had the privilege of working with Tricia as my Mom's needs have evolved over that time. I cannot say enough about the personal investment of time and energy that Tricia offered to my Mom and my family throughout this process. I used to think of an estate plan as something you put in place and left on the shelf until after you pass. Tricia helps you see that the real challenges can come when the client is still alive but aging, and you have to figure out how to make the money last. In the last year, my Mom's memory has been failing, and she had to move out of her home to Assisted Living. It is a difficult transition for anyone, and especially so for an independent woman like my Mom. Stressful family dynamics can make a difficult situation even more complex. Certainly in my case, the family dynamics became a huge issue. Tricia stayed crystal clear that my Mother is the client; discussions remained focused on her needs and were always respectful of Mom's right to self-determination. Tricia took the time to understand how my mother expresses herself, especially when faced with another difficult family member. Tricia extended incredible patience to all family members, helping them to know that they are heard. Most importantly, Tricia treats my Mom with incredible care and genuine concern, helping to guide her through the decisions she faces, and anticipating the complications that may still lie ahead. Tricia brings the excellent, very knowledgeable legal counsel you would want when making estate plans for yourself or your loved ones. But Tricia also goes far above and beyond in truly getting to know the family and your needs, and in offering creative options when you need them most. She is well connected with other experts whom she can tap into as needed. Tricia's practice honestly seems to be a labor of love.

Patricia has been my angel! For so many years, my husbands health problems kept me from attempting to solve our finantial problems. She came into my life just in time, and I now feel secure in this respect. I am very grateful for her kindness and efficiency in working for me. If I have future conserns I feel very confident that she will help me. The above was written by my mother Ruth. I would like to add to her comments. Patricia is not only knowledgable but she is also very kind and understanding. She is more than willing to explain things in a very slow and easy manner. No matter how many times a question is asked she has always answered. My mother and I are both highly recommend Patricia and her staff.

I was already a Client of PYWL working with their Financial Experts. While meeting with one I mentioned that I took care of my (2) 91 year old parents and my Father was in need of a Nursing home as my Mother could not care for him any longer. He suggested I talk to Patricia and I scheduled an initial consultation with her and we spoke for over an hour. I brought my parents finances with me and she told me her plan would be to redirect my Father's Income in his name to my Mother so that she could continue to live in their apartment which was right up the street from the Nursing Home that my Father was in now so she could continue to visit her husband of 67 years. Trisha told me it would be a long hard journey for both of us, but we would become good friends as we pursued a common goal. She was right! Her abilities as an Elder Law Lawyer, her personality along with being a genuinely kind person were the perfect match. She has assembled an amazing team and everyone was working towards the same goal as I came to see her for. She succeeded and my Mother has been able to stay in her Apartment. Wouldn't Hesitate to Recommend Trisha and her Team to anyone I talk to.

I'm thankful for Patricia's guidance, care, patience, and time while helping fulfill my father’s wishes on record. Additionally, her thoughtful understanding and evaluation of our family’s situation and wishes to care for him in any transition that we make were impeccable. She was thorough and analytical towards options that would best meet all our needs. (Processes covered included: Health Care Proxy, Power of Attorney, and Estate Planning)

I found PYWL and Tricia Shumaker through a friend who spoke very highly of her. I had recently become Power of Attorney and Health Care Proxy for an elderly widow and was completely unfamiliar with how to best manage her estate. Tricia was patient, professional, knowledgeable, kind and responsive to every question and every need that arose. She took the time to explain in great detail the ins and outs of proper estate planning, and it was clear that she wasn't simply concerned with the financial piece. She is completely tuned into her clients wishes and needs. I cannot say enough positive things about our experience. Tricia made the whole process so comfortable and easy and kept me informed every step of the way. I would highly recommend her and the entire PYWL team to anyone in need of estate planning or elder care legal services. I couldn't imagine a better experience.

I came to PYWL and Tricia because my mom's condo had been placed into the wrong type of trust when it was purchased. I wish that I had known about her sooner, she was so helpful and efficient. She even came to the house to make it easier for my mom, who is 89, to sign everything. I recently had to pay another visit to her as some circumstances have changed and was given the same caring and well informed treatment. I am confident that following her counsel is my best course of action and we are proceeding as such. Caring for an elderly parent is taxing and stressful, financially and emotionally. Tricia is adept at helping to reach the proper conclusions while being supportive and pleasant. She is wonderful to deal with and I highly recommend her services.
