Lauren has been a superb combination of an excellent lawyer and advocate for my best interests, and a caring human being. I had very specific and personal ways in which I wished to handle my divorce. Lauren was scrupulous about identifying the pros and cons of my preferences, as well as in implementing my decisions. She was a great communicator too, making sure she completely understood me before every action. She kept the process moving despite an often-unresponsive opposing counsel. I am delighted with the settlement we worked out, and will continue to retain her for other matters.

Attorney Frisoli helped me with a Civil Motor Vehicle Infraction hearing recently. He was quick to respond and hear out my situation and prepare a good defense to address and win the case for me at the hearing. Very easy to work with and will be happy to work with him/his firm for any future needs.

After my first conversation with Attorney Dan Perlman, I knew our prayers had been answered and it was at that point, I decided to put our son’s future and all my trust in Dan and his expertise. I was 100% confident that Dan’s sole focus would be to give our son a fighting chance at a successful future. Our son, who is 17, has Asperger’s syndrome, Tourette syndrome disorder, Depression and OCD and during his 3 years at the high school he was attending had declined to a life of isolation and depression. Because of Dan’s selfless and tireless efforts, our boy will soon be enrolled in a much better environment that is suited to assist him with his social and emotional needs versus the high school he was previously struggling at. Dan is an extremely intelligent lawyer who is honest, kind, giving and patient. He was always willing to take whatever time was needed to explain the process at each stage of our son’s case and kept us abreast of any and all situations as they arose. This was the first time I had ever used a lawyer for anything and Dan made the process very easy and never once did I feel like he wasn’t competent and totally in control of the situation. To tell you we are blessed is an understatement. I would highly recommend Dan to any parent whose child needs an advocate who wants nothing more than to fight for the best interests of the child. God bless you Dan and thank you! We will be forever grateful.

I first met Dan when my son, who has autism, started high school. My son was struggling because the school he was at didn't have an appropriate program for him and Dan got involved and was extremely resourceful. Dan found us the right doctor, who also got on board to help, Dan was always there, present, reachable, patient, available and willing to do what was necessary in order to get my son the best education and school possible . Now my son is in an amazing school that cater to his needs and he's progressing beautifully thanks to God and his blessing to us "Dan Perlman". Dan you are a gift to us,we'll never, in a million years, be able to repay your care, responsibility and commitment to my son's cause. Dan Perlman is an amazing attorney and human being and my family and son are doing superbly because he cared.

Pat represented clients of mine in a multilayered real estate transaction. As the clients’ agent, she kept me in the loop at every touch point and reached out when appropriate so I knew how the contracts were progressing. Pat was professional, patient and responsive to all parties involved and helped keep the deal moving forward to ensure everyone got to the closing table on time. I highly recommend Pat and will continue to use her as a real estate attorney. Thank you Pat for being an essential part of the team!- Nicolette Mascari, Compass

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Concord, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
