Pros
1
Responsive and attentive communication from the lawyers and staff
“She had my back the entire way through. I'm so thankful for their help, if I ever need help again I won't go to anyone else.”
2
Knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled legal representation
“He is a very good attorney and helped me at a difficult and stressful time. He has been doing divorce law a long time and really knows the in's and out's of how cases will turn out.”
3
Aggressive and effective advocacy to protect client's interests
“Laurie navigated that and fought for me harder than I was fighting for myself. I thank her for that and I highly recommend her as a lawyer.”
4
Caring, compassionate, and understanding approach
“It truly felt like I was her only client. I knew if I called or emailed that I would get a response as soon as she was able to.”
5
Positive results and outcomes for clients
“Because of Will's counsel I settled and did not fight to the bitter end. He advised me that the outcome was uncertain and I very well may end up paying more in legal fees that I would get if I 'won.'”
Cons
1
Lack of responsiveness and attention to client's case
“I paid this man GOOD money and I'm so disappointed aside the past two years not representing me correctly forgetting about my case being late to court.”
2
Questionable ethics and professionalism
“On our first court appearance for a restraining order this guy made a comment about my Ex on how good she looked I knew right there his lack of professionalism wouldn't help me with my case.”
3
Overcharging and lack of transparency regarding fees
“Make sure you ask questions about how much he is charging you for and for what. Waste of 1900. $250 for a 10 min conversation.”

It’s been an on going battle for me for years with my particular case. But talk about a go getter Laurie has been amazing very knowledgeable and I 100 percent recommend her to anyone looking for help with divorce or custody issues. She has made me feel very comfortable and very confident in going forward in my case it’s been a pleasure having her represent me and I assure anyone who is looking for a lawyer to go with Laurie Sanford she’s amazing.

Attorney Sanford worked on a very short time-line to provide evidence to the court in my favor and effectively exhibited numerous flaws in the allegations against me. I was impressed with her savvy in the courtroom!

We were in search for an immigration lawyer to present us for adjustment of status. We consulted with another lawyer which ended up being a waste of time . But then a friend referred us to Love and after talking to her we knew she was the right choice . She took our case in July of 2020 and presented us and our file was well organized and very detailed . When the appointment for the interview came she was there ready and prepared . I’m proud to say after 23 yrs she set me free and now in only 9 months I’m a permanent resident . From my Wife , myself and my baby girl on the way a BIG THANK YOU !!! If you are looking for someone that will fight for you and get you the results you want in your immigration case look no further . Love is all you need !!!

Richard is our go-to attorney for many of my family members. He has always been extremely knowledgeable and resourceful across all matters in which he was the attorney of representation. He has always had successful results and provided advice and support on a number of matters. Highly recommended as an attorney with experience helping my family members with both civil and personal injury cases.

Richard reviewed a contract for me that dealt with signing on with a band and manager. He pointed out the flaws and vague language in it and showed me that the contract was not in my favor. Richard is a very knowledgable attorney. He definitely saved me from some troubles down the road.

I came in very unsure of if I had a leg to stand on legally in my situation - even though I knew that what had happened was really wrong morally. Richard really took the time to show me why the law was behind me and it gave me the confidence I needed to continue to fight for what I knew was right. The outcome was exactly what needed to happen and I could not be more thankful. It is great to see good prevail - I highly recommend him!

Ms. Long was referred to us, after we had a terrible experience with an attorney in Stoneham, MA, who is no longer allowed to practice law in Massachusetts. She took our case, and worked diligently to correct the mistakes made by the other attorney, and got the case moving forward. In less than one year, my daughter's permanent residency was granted. Thanks Ms. Long for a job well done!

Ms Long cared about my case more than I did. No stones were left unturned. She is a great attorney. She explained the law to me every step of the way. Today, I have my green card and it was a serious battle which she fought with zeal, concentration and master of the law.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fall River, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
