I had the privilege of working with Paul Lees, and I am compelled to highlight his exceptional legal expertise, integrity, and dedication. Throughout the process, Paul demonstrated a profound understanding of the law, leaving no stone unturned in gathering crucial facts for my case. What truly set Paul apart was his fearless confrontation of a deceitful opposing party. Armed with factual evidence, Paul adeptly and skillfully handled the lies, showcasing a level of integrity that was not only reassuring but instrumental in navigating the proceedings. In addition to his meticulous approach, Paul went above and beyond, emailing me early mornings and late nights to ensure no detail was overlooked. This tireless effort played a crucial role in securing a favorable outcome. I am still amazed at how Paul handled the deceit, making him an even more invaluable asset in the complexities of the legal system. I wholeheartedly recommend Paul to anyone seeking legal representation. Thank you, Paul, for your exceptional service and for winning my case.

Paul Lees was recommended to us after my husband was in a horrific motorcycle accident that basically left him broken from head to toe. We have never filed a lawsuit and had no idea where to begin or what to expect. Paul walked us thru every step of the way. He put together an amazing case and helped us reach a settlement we are comfortable with. I’m not sure where we would be without Paul right now. He helped us feel at ease through one of the most difficult times in our lives and we will be forever grateful. I would definitely hire Paul if the need ever arises again and will highly recommend him to anyone that may need his services.

Mr. Paul Lees was recommended to me by a family friend and I am so glad I hired him to help settle an injury claim. I did not think I needed a lawyer but boy was I wrong. He got a settlement for me that was far beyond what I was initially offered before hiring him. He is an extremely professional, courteous, knowledgeable and caring attorney. He was very thorough and explained complex legal and financial matters in a clear and concise manner. He was always available to answer any questions and always gave a timeline of what to expect next. His rate was extremely fair and worth every penny for the excellent work! I give him a "5 plus" star rating.

Paul was recommended to us for my fiancés motorcycle accident claim due to the extent of his injuries. As this was our first legal matter, we had no clue where to turn. After meeting with Paul, we felt confident and comfortable enough to have him take on this case. Paul handled the claim professionally with a great deal of compassion. He was always available and effortlessly in communication with us throughout each step. He checked in frequently on my fiancé’s recovery status and worked with our schedules tremendously to set up phone calls, Zoom meetings, and stopping in for document signatures. The case was resolved rather quickly, with a positive result. Having to go through a traumatic accident during a pandemic was not easy, never mind the legal matter it accrued – however Paul made it seem so simple. We would not hesitate to hire him again for any legal issue.

My experience with Troy Sullivan is that he is a 'straight shooter' and gets the job done in an efficient, no nonsense way. He is also a personable fellow -- and his fees are by no means exorbitant. I would recommend him to anyone needing an attorney's assistance in settling an estate.

Working with Troy Sullivan to develop our estate plan and set up our trust was an excellent experience. Troy was very professional and responsive to all of our needs. He spent time gathering financial information and understanding our wishes regarding Power of Atty, DNRs, Health Care Proxies etc. He provided us with a comprehensive plan, offered to work with two out of state attorneys to deal with titles for us, and provided us with all documentation in a very timely manner. The end product is something that really works for us. Troy even went on to assure us he was there to help us with any future questions.

John has been a close colleague of mine for over 25 years. While my practice is diverse concentrating in litigation, real estate and other general matters, I also handle Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases and maybe an occasional Chapter 13 case. However, whenever I have had a difficult and/or challenging bankruptcy case, I immediately contact John and refer the matter to him as I know it will be handled in the most competent and expeditious manner. Additionally, John is really effective with any creditors' claims and adversary proceedings. Therefore, John is my "Go To" person for any such bankruptcy work. He is also very responsive and knowledgeable when I have a quick question on a bankruptcy issue and will readily cite the applicable section of the Code. It is comforting to know that John is in my network of colleagues. I highly recommend him. Deborah Gold-Alexander

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gloucester, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
