Was given an appointment was told 8 to 8000 to 10,000 to retain this lawyer when I hadn’t even had a consult first I wanted to know if I should be retaining a lawyer I wanted to ask the question and they want eight to $10,000 to retain this lawyer it’s bogus they said they would call they never called the lady I spoke to on the phone was so rude Very rude. I can’t even believe she does customer service that’s OK that’s not the problem. The problem is I don’t think Lawyer even knows what’s happening on the phone when his secretary speaks where they’re coming from but I don’t get how they handled that I waited two days to hear from this lawyer and then that’s what I got , I’ll give you two stars that

Representing myself against Jason, I’m appalled and shocked how simple procedural tasks (like ensuring opposing counsel has memorandum 3 days before trial) are not completed on time. He took over for another attorney… but they missed a perjury hearing with the magistrate And then he said, paraphrasing of course “Lawyers aren’t under oath so we can’t be committed of perjury” Your client wasn’t given the statement so nobody can be charged here… So you’re saying it’s ok to lie in court? As there are no ramifications- what about the board of ethics? No attempt to settle - he’s like most attorneys -> a GLORIFIED SALESMAN that needs to know the law but only job is to take as much money from his clients rather than advise them to settle

We found ourselves in the middle of a legal process that we knew very little about. We had worked with another attorney for earlier stages of the process and we were not confident about how to approach the path forward… and then we hired Nicole Levy. Nicole immediately put us at ease. She was knowledgeable about the entire legal process and guided us forward all while taking our ideas into account, moving us in a direction that we were all comfortable and confident with. Nicole communicated with us frequently and clearly throughout all of the stages and made sure that we were adequately prepared. Our only regret is that we didn’t hire Nicole earlier in the process. She comes with our highest recommendation.

This was my first experience with an attorney, and Nicole Levy was amazing! She listened to my family’s issues and was extremely diligent and respectful. She pressed for answers to my questions (and hers) and followed up consistently with the other party. When you speak to her, you can feel the passion she has for her work. This is exactly what I wanted in an attorney. She fought for my family and got the job done! We are beyond grateful for Attorney Levy. I highly, highly recommend her! If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would. Thank you so much, Attorney Levy!

Attorney Owens has been invaluable in improving my daughter's life. Having someone who I trusted to represent me through this difficult process was absolutely game-changing. He is extremely hard working, thorough, strategic, thinks outside the box, and has a very high attention to detail. He truly cares about his clients and I am forever grateful for all of his work. He truly understand the psychopathology of narcissists and how to effectively navigate them in court. He fights the good fight, and I am so lucky to have found him.

Many legal cases, especially those involving 15 years! of retroactive child support can be daunting to say the least. And having Five, yes Five (5), previous attorney's over all these years NOT being able to get the job done has been very disillusioning and disheartening. However, Attorney Jason V. Owens without hesitation took intelligent command of what appeared to be a "lost" cause and quickly re-esatablished the legal legitimacy and worthiness of my child support case with clear, concise direction. And along the way, his integrity and dedication to all aspects of the case, including those very human elements many clients bare on their sleeves, have been nothing short of sincere, purposeful and committed. It is not easy to entrust an attorney with such an important issue as child support which clearly affects your child's everyday quality of life. Yet, Attorney Owens has restored my faith and trust not only in the process, but in having an attorney who protects your and your family's best interests. I have found Attorney Owens to be open, receptive, communicative, respectful and willing to partner in a team effort to acheive what is fair and deserved. Of equal importance to the law, I have found that Attorney Owens' vast experience, knowledge, and grasp of adjunct areas in business and finance have also had a tremendous positive impact on his ability to quickly assess and discern all the angles of my case. Truly, the total package! Without hesitation, I sincerely recommend Attorney Owens!

Mr. Sawin helped me during a particularly stressful time when my divorce agreement and child support were being modified. He was very straightforward and responsive. His office staff and junior attorneys were kind and helpful. There were multiple challenges related to my case, including Covid-19. At the end of it all, I had the result that I wanted. I am very grateful for the peace of mind that I had knowing that he was representing my interests throughout an emotionally trying time. I will also add that choosing him to represent me for the modification was one of the best decisions that I made - I believe having a strong advocate with experience in the local courts allowed for a quick resolution.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hingham, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
