Carolyn helped me with my unemployment appeal and she is absolutely incredible! She walked me through what to expect through the entire process and advised me on my situation and the questions to expect. The appeal was a total success and I couldn’t have done it without her! Her expertise was invaluable, and she was such a pleasure to work with!! The only thing I would have done differently is to have reached out to the Workplace Justice Law Group when I first applied for unemployment. Thank you Carolyn!,

I was referred to Jill from a trusted friend and I am so glad I did. I was in shock and very upset when I first reached out to her and she took the time to listen to me as I described the situation and expressed my concerns. She was compassionate and answered all my questions but most importantly, guided me through the process effectively. She always answered my questions in a timely manner and her pricing structure was clear and fair. I ended up in the best situation possible and I can’t thank her enough. I will definitely refer her to anyone I know who needs these type of services. Thank you!

I met my wife Sonia at a time in my life where all that was missing for me was my own family. We created a life together with her 3 daughters living with us. Later, came our son Santiago. Sonia is from El Salvador. It’s been a wonderful experience learning her culture and how important family can be in one’s life. Attorney Eric Averion helped us solidify our future through administrating the process every single step of the way. He provided everything from easy to follow checklists to expert explanation of the complicated multifaceted process we had to go through in order for Sonia to get her residency via my sponsorship. We are happy customers!!! Eric’s support and knowledge provided all the peace of mind we really needed along the way. Thanks so much!

I met Eric 15yrs ago when he was working for Goldstein Law. Even if I gave a million words to thank Eric, I would still not be able to express my gratitude for his hard work and commitment that he had given towards my case. I went from getting deported to earning my citizenship and helped me assure that I would forever be together with my family. He is an extremely hard working Attorney that will fight for your case and find a solution for your next complicated immigration case and will not disappoint you. He will respond to your questions immediately and not keep you in the dark ;he will not give you false hopes and prepare for the worse case scenario. I would not hesitate to hire or recommend Eric to anyone who is in trouble with the Immigration. .

I've worked with 2 lawyers before I decided to get in touch with Hema Sarang-Sieminski. Never had I felt so comfortable with a lawyer before from the very first second we met. She did a great job on my asylum case, stayed on top of it til the very end. Aside from that, Hema has a great personality and very easy to work with. There was always communication between the 2 of us as to what needs to be done for the best success. I am extremely happy with this lawyer and would totally recommend her to everyone who is in search for a professional.

A friend of mine referred me to Hema when my partner and I were looking to get married (I am not a US citizen). It was June 2013 and DOMA had just fallen. We were both giddy with joy and at the same time overwhelmed at what needed to be done for us to finally be together. We could not have asked for a more friendly, responsive and thoughtful attorney than Hema. From the start, she put us at ease and really helped us get through the rather exhausting process of applying for the K1 visa, getting through the myriad paper work requirements, getting married here in the US, applying for the work permit and finally, the GC. Through all this, Hema remained ever so friendly, accessible (I cannot stress enough how important this was to us) and very professional. Given the nature of our application, there were a couple of times when she did not have the answer to a specific query right away but she handled it very well letting us know that she'd check with other colleagues and get back to us. And she did! I do not have a yardstick to compare her work (no other experience with attorneys) but I have no doubt that we had a very good attorney on our side. Thank you Hema!!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
