Nicole was recommended to me for my divorce. She was my savior and literally at beckoning call all day everyday for a solid year. I went through a horrible divorce that included a business, which she was very knowledgeable about. She fought hard for me and knew what the judge would or wouldn't agree with. I honestly couldn't have gone through what I went through without her. She also knew the opposing Attorney and how he operated which was a huge benefit. I plan to use her for all future legal matters. She is ethical smart and caring and helped me tremendously during the most difficult time in my life.

I hired this attorney to assist with my modification and she stated she was able to help and I had grounds for modifying my parenting schedule with the other parent. When the other party hired an attorney, her demeanor began to change and so did her confidence in winning. To make matters worse only weeks before trial, she withdrew herself indicating she felt I no longer had grounds. The other attorney intimidated her and I was forced to fight for my child on my own.. I should have read the previous review! Get an attorney who is not afraid to take on the big dogs and invests in you.. After all, isn’t that what you’re paying thousands for?

Please stay away from this attorney by all means! When we first met, she said I should be applying for guardianship for my adult disabled son and would help me with this but subsequently never did anything and later reversed her position saying the court would most likely not agree with my being my son's legal guardian. She also told me that my ex would not be allowed to move my son out of state without a good plan for my son to include workshop/day program. Again she changed her position on this, later stating a court would agree with my ex moving my son out of state even if there was no reason to believe it would be in his best interest to move. She is very poorly versed in legal matters regarding special needs adults. She rarely answered my calls and became very disengaged from my case. Frankly what originally appeared to be good representation was the exact opposite and a total waste of time and money.

Nicole was amazing. She represented me in a child custody case for my granddaughter. She was the third attorney I hired in order to keep my granddaughter safe and with me. She was always available and did just what she said would in a timely manner as well as kept me informed the entire time. She is very good at what she does and she cares. Nicole is knowledgeable and does not waste time. I would not hesitate to hire her again if I needed representation.

Divorce is something that no-one ever expects to happen to them, especially when there are children involved. My divorce started out as a simple mediation, but then it turned "ugly." My ex hired a lawyer that had a reputation of being a "pit bull." I had hired my initial lawyer for mediation and she respectfully declined to represent me against my ex's newly found lawyer as she did not feel that she would work in the best interest of the family and would drain our savings. Nicole was highly recommended as Nicole had a reputation for being able to balance her professionalism, her respect for her colleagues, and be a strong effective advocate for her clients. Nicole is not only a lawyer, she is a mindful woman with a big heart who truly cares about how each decision affects all parties. She is able to be mindful and sensitive to the needs of children and parents during a divorce. She is also exceptional at negotiating and working very hard to get exactly what is in the best interest of her client and family. It is easy to get married and can be very challenging to go through the many feelings and emotions of a divorce. Nicole is very intuitive and aware of the dynamics and importance of a family system before the divorce, the impact of the divorce, and putting the pieces together for the family after a divorce. She is able to develop clear expectations in her written agreements so that there is minimal room for error or surprise. This was especially helpful as my children participated in sports and all were attending college. She will work hard for you, she will keep you focused, and she will keep your spirits up with her quick wit. It is without any reservation, that I highly recommend Nicole Norkevicius as she is very passionate about her work.

Rachel Hodgman is a dedicated, intelligent, and professional attorney who guided me through the divorce process. I would recommend her services to anyone going through the difficult and emotional experience of divorce and in my case, shared child custody. Rachel was personally invested into mine and my children’s well being. She was always available when and if I needed to talk. She looked out for me, but not in an overbearing way, when I became disillusioned with anything to do with the divorce. She represented my interests perfectly when it came down to negotiating an agreement with my ex wife and her attorney. I have a good outlook on life post divorce and Rachel greatly assisted me in achieving this.

I recently sold my home in Falmouth, Mass. on my own and I called Mr. Garner. He walked me through the process clearly, telling me what issues I would need to address. From the start, he and his paralegal, Denise, made the process go smoothly. I emailed Denise numerous times and she is a real problem-solver. This law office is professional and experienced, and I recommend them to others who have real estate legal needs.

I first met Brian when he represented another party in a real estate transaction. We went on to use Brian and his firm to represent our company in its mortgage lending activities. During the course of the last 10 years, he has handled all real estate documentation and been involved in many property negotiations representing our company. As a company active in mortgage lending and discounted mortgage acquisitions, Brian has dealt with our challenges including bankruptcies and foreclosures. We are happy to have Brian on our side of the table.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mashpee, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
