I have know bill for a long time. And let me tell you. He the best ! As a lawyer and as a person! I was a kid when I first met him I believe I was 14 years old. Now I’m 31. He watched me grow up from a kid to a man. And he alway understood me feel where I was coming from. He always stayed in contact with me over the years. I have contacted him for many reason and he was always there to help me out. With question to advice etc…. I always can count on him to be there for me when I need him. He is simply the best. And I would recommend him to anybody that needs legal help. He is very understanding and not judgmental. So to anybody that needs legal help bill is your guy that u can count on. Thank you bill for everything you have done for me. You are very much appreciated. Evan kan

This was my first time that I needed legal help and I reached out to many lawyers including Mr. William Barabino. I decided to go with Bill due to his professionalism over the phone and in person. He made me feel calm about my situation and rest assured that he would get us ready for what’s ahead. He was able to get me out of my situation and I couldn’t be any happier. For anyone that needs a lawyer, Bill is the one to hire! Thank You Bill!

I would never start a relationship with a firm that sends an arrogant and unprofessional response to a prospective clients first email. Interestingly, the first response was not listening and spewing her rate and mandatory retainer. Sadly for her, money would not have been an issue. What a turn off!

As trustees of my mother’s property, we hired Attorney Dixon to assist us with the sale of her home. He executed the real estate transaction flawlessly. Attorney Dixon was methodical, thorough, and extremely responsive. He explained the process and issues well and was patient and kind when responding to our questions. He added levity with his dry sense of humor. It was a pleasure to work with him. We trust Attorney Dixon 100% and unreservedly recommend him.

Attorney Dixon took time to consult with me regarding a landlord-tenant dispute. He took the time to listen to the history of the issue, was knowledgeable regarding MA rentals laws and provided helpful information. The consult gave me confidence that I am proceeding with the best course of action regarding a stressful situation.

I had needed a Real Estate attorney to work with my lender to transfer titles currently held in probate. I had a lender and 2 different probate attorneys, and within 24 hours of gathering all the facts of what was required, she was the only person to come forth to inform me that the whole process I was in was mishandled and not the correct way to handle things. I have sent emails, left calls - and I swear its been a reply within 2 minutes. She is busy, but she really could tell I was so furious and upset, she made sure to get back to me fast, calm me down and talk me through what I needed. If you need a Real Estate attorney, you want someone thorough and FAST. Most of all - patient and super informed in her field. She was asking me to get things to her so quickly, I could not believe her turnaround and attentiveness. I have know Gail for a few years, but this is the first professional matter I had hired her for. I am recommending her to everyone I know, realtors, lenders, etc. She is the best!

I am truly grateful that I had Kara as my attorney during a very high conflict custody case. Not only is she experienced and knowledgeable, she’s also patient, empathetic, reasonable and level headed. She takes the time to get to know you and your specifically situation, and provide expert legal advice without over promising and under delivering. Kara’s experience with the court systems and judges allows her to have a realistic approach to fighting for what is fair in your case. I always felt like she went above and beyond to make herself available and I always felt like me and my case were a priority.

Kara has been my attorney for several years. She walked me through a very difficult divorce and a VERY difficult custody dispute. Kara is cool and calm and definitely reads the opposition well. In the end I got exactly what I wanted! I strongly recommend her.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Medford, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
