We were extremely pleased with Debra's services. Debra represented us as the sellers of 2 pieces of property with somewhat complicated scenarios such as property line changes and easements. She also handled an inexperienced buyer's attorney. We were extremely pleased. Also she is always available. We could send her an email at 8 PM not expecting a reply until morning but she was always replying. Strongly recommend her to anyone buying or selling a home.

Debra handled our closing in an efficient and detailed manner. She was very approachable and receptive to all of our questions and concerns. She gave excellent advice and even worked around our "Out of State" schedule to make the closing a convenient and pleasant experience. We enjoyed meeting her and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking good counsel on purchasing a home in the area. Thank-you Debra!

I can not say enough about the job attorney Debra Bodenstein provided me. She represented me for both buying and selling of properties and she had my best interest in mind at all times. When a problem occurred with the title to the condo I wanted to buy Debra worked tirelessly to find a satisfactory solution and made my purchase possible. She kept me updated at each stage of the process and was constantly available to answer any and all questions. Never having bought a home by myself before I found the process intimidating and some what overwhelming. Debra walked me through everything, explaining the process in terms I was able to understand. I would recommend Debra for any and all of your real estate needs.

I hired Catherine to help me with a difficult dispute involving IP, employment, and tort issues. She and her team were professional, provided excellent advice, were respectful of my budget, and helped resolve the issue before it went to trial.

I found Catherine through the website and carefully reading other people's reviews and decided to give it a go, am I glad I did! Being a small business owner, it is really stressed out for me to dealing with the innocent infringement with large firm's lawyer. Catherine is not only personal, responsive, unlike other attorney I dealt with before, but also has great knowledge about dealing with infringement, within short period of time, we were able to settle the case. Thank you Catherine!!

We found Catherine while searching for Infringement attorney and contacted her office. The issue we had to deal with has caused a lot of stress and we were eager to get legal help quickly. Catherine didn’t make us wait and returned our call within 15 minutes. After first conversation we didn’t have to look any further. We decided to turn to Catherine with our copyright problem and have received an outstanding service every step of the way. Her experience and acumen were top notch, her communications with the opponents were sharp and on point. This was particularly important to us as the opposing party attorneys were set to drag the case much longer than needed. Catherine is not only a very knowledgeable attorney but also an amazing person - both of these qualities have made an issue so much easier to deal with. We will not hesitate to use Catherine in the future!

I like to joke with Shehzad that he is too honest to be a good lawyer. Shehzad is warm, friendly, honest, trustworthy, diligent, thoughtful, caring, and tireless. He took on my first case against a big employer, and he went toe to toe with the highest price Boston lawyers, and he won. He handled their posturing, their threats, their aggression with calm demeanor and the facts. Shehzad's fees were more than reasonable. His bills were always detailed, specific down to what he talked on the phone about, not just "phone call" items. He was amazing with his turn-around time, and often asked me question late into the night as he did his homework for the case. Shehzad's practice is a family practice, with his wife and mother-in-law. Each has their specialities, so if Shehzad is not the best choice for your case, one of the other family members may have the expertise required. The practice is small and away from Boston, so you don't get the suit-and-tie salesman treatment and then handed off to a paralegal or a junior lawyer, but just an honest, wholesome lawyer trying to advise and advocate your case with conviction and passion. I highly recommend Shehzad Rajwani, and I continue to entrust his advice on our business and other legal matters. I have had a half dozen lawyers over the last 15 years, but now that I have Shehzad, like a good auto mechanic, I won't let him go anytime soon.

Shehzad was referred to me by a friend of mine. Shehzad was wonderful to work with and very knowledgeable. He listened to me and then explained what the worst and best case scenario would be. Of course, I hope to never need to use Shehzad again because of the situation, however if I did need an attorney, Shehzad would be the first person I would call. I thought he was fair, honest and an all around good family guy. PS, he is a PIT BULL. I am glad he was on my side and not opposing counsel.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Northborough, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
