I met my ex when I was a student in the US. We married and after a couple of years I applied for a green card. After four years of marriage and right before the interview to remove the conditions on my green card I found the dirtbag literally in bed with my best friend. His response was that he wasn't going to come to the green card interview and that he wanted me to get deported. I was devastated and very scared because my family had cut off ties with me because of my marriage. I was placed in deportation proceeding and didn't know where to turn. Luckily a friend put me in contact with Chris. He stayed the deportation got me enough time to get a divorce. Once the divorce came through he initiated a new removal of green card condition application without my cheating ex. and took me the through the whole difficult process (made especially difficult because my ex. did not co-operate at all and had all my photos, records, etc., everything, he even kept all my clothes and belongings). The interview was scheduled for Dec 24, 2014, and my knight in shining armor was there and helped me through the interview explaining the sad and sordid details of my situation. With Chris's able explanation the immigration officer quickly understood the situation and gave me an early Christmas present, my permanent green card :) I could not have gotten through that difficult time and navigated the complicated process without Chris. I can say 100% that without his help I would not be living in the US and I would have been deported. Chris is one of the best immigration attorneys in Boston. He cares about his clients, as do his excellent and responsive office staff. His fees are very reasonable, especially given his experience, and he gets results and keeps families together. The immigration process is often a daunting one fraught with anxiety but it doesn't have to be, and with attorney Chris Lavery helping you through it, it isn't. Highly recommend!

He walked us through the immigration process with confidence and ease. We always felt aware and prepared of the process, as Chris was super informative and unbelievably patient in answering every question we had. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone and everyone. You will NOT find a better Lawyer to represent you with the immigration process!

Attorney Lavery handled my green card case in 2011. It was not a straightforward case, but that did not deter him at all. He was enthusiastic about the case and relished the challenge that it presented. Attorney Lavery was very knowledgeable and kept me informed throughout the process. I received my green card, and am now a citizen of the United States. I could not have done this without the help of Attorney Lavery. I unreservedly recommend Attorney Lavery to anyone who needs immigration services.

I applied for my Naturalization and I had some criminal issues that were somewhat difficult and wasn't sure if I was going to get approved or not. Chris did the research for me and advised me that he saw no problem in my applying for Citizenship (after he saw my CORI report that is). Immigration was tough on my case and it took 7 months to get approved but it did get approved. Chris would go to immigration on my behalf every 30 days (after my interview) just so he can keep me informed on what was going on. He is an incredible attorney and truly cares about his clients. He is always reachable and has the patience of a saint because I am telling you I wasn't easy to deal with because I just wanted to know if it was going to get approved or not. I recommend Chris with no hesitation he is unbelievable and made my dream of becoming a U.S. citizen come true....Every attorney should have the passion that Chris does regarding Immigration law.

We met Chris back in 2007 and we hired him immediately after our first meeting and we never looked back. He walked us through this very intimidating immigration process in baby steps and helped us understand everything so clearly that we rarely had questions for him. He was prompt and informative and just all round fantastic. It is now 2011 and we have just finalized our Immigration process and as well as becoming a US Citizen we have gained a great friend. I would recommend Chris in a heartbeat to anyone who is in need of a GREAT immigration lawyer

Mike from the very outset was a very informative, patient caring individual. Recommended by a family member, I was still leery of using him. After contacting some huge well known Firms in Downtown Boston and asked by them if I had already contacted any attorneys, I mentioned Mikes name and was told, " If Mike can't get it done, no one can " It proved to be all true. He ensured the workman comp company compensated me fairly and my medical needs met. I was hurt on the job ending up having to have a 3 level back surgery and a total hip replacement. Not only that but he connected me with an attorney in the state that the companies involved , were held liable on the personal injury side of things. Mike was implemental in me being compensated in a generous settlement ensuring my family and I are taken care for. Mikes attention to detail and his vast knowledge is seen after sitting with him and his handling of the case. Thank you Mike. We appreciate You

I sustained a repetitive strain injury as a result of numerous years working as a bank teller at a high volume drive thru. When the insurance company initially denied my claim, I reached out to Attorney Michael Kiernan to represent me and fight for the medical care and compensation that I deserved. He was extremely knowledgeable and was quick to answer anytime I had a question or concern. After finishing my treatment and being released back to work, he was quick to get all the required paperwork submitted so we could go ahead and settle with the insurance company. I got an excellent settlement that the judge approved within a couple days of me signing and I was able to quickly move on with my life and look for my next career opportunity. Michael works fast and adds a personal touch to make his clients feel secure and valued. I would highly recommend him to anyone going through any kind of workmans comp case!

I meet Jenna in 2014 so this review is overdue, but she handled a couple of things for me and I was very satisfied with her service. She was so knowledgeable and available to answer questions with immediate response. I can’t thank Attorney Wolinetz enough. She really made me feel less nervous going through the ordeal.

i found attorney Wolinetz on line about two years ago and she has meet all of my expectations more than I could have amagined. Since that time I've refferred severel people to her because I believe she is honest and fair in handling matters. Thanks to Attorney Wolinetz I've been able to settle many matters that were lingering in my life. The only way I would use another attorney is if she feels she couldn't handle the case.

After interviewing a million lawyers I hired Ms Wolinetz to handle my situation. The situation is a complex civil matter with a lot of moving parts. A lot attorneys I spoke with were qualified but were looking for a case with a larger return. Still others could not handle the detail. We're not done yet but I would consider an interview and consult with Ms Wolinetz appropiate for anyone needing assistance in her areas of law.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Quincy, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
