Mike from the very outset was a very informative, patient caring individual. Recommended by a family member, I was still leery of using him. After contacting some huge well known Firms in Downtown Boston and asked by them if I had already contacted any attorneys, I mentioned Mikes name and was told, " If Mike can't get it done, no one can " It proved to be all true. He ensured the workman comp company compensated me fairly and my medical needs met. I was hurt on the job ending up having to have a 3 level back surgery and a total hip replacement. Not only that but he connected me with an attorney in the state that the companies involved , were held liable on the personal injury side of things. Mike was implemental in me being compensated in a generous settlement ensuring my family and I are taken care for. Mikes attention to detail and his vast knowledge is seen after sitting with him and his handling of the case. Thank you Mike. We appreciate You

I sustained a repetitive strain injury as a result of numerous years working as a bank teller at a high volume drive thru. When the insurance company initially denied my claim, I reached out to Attorney Michael Kiernan to represent me and fight for the medical care and compensation that I deserved. He was extremely knowledgeable and was quick to answer anytime I had a question or concern. After finishing my treatment and being released back to work, he was quick to get all the required paperwork submitted so we could go ahead and settle with the insurance company. I got an excellent settlement that the judge approved within a couple days of me signing and I was able to quickly move on with my life and look for my next career opportunity. Michael works fast and adds a personal touch to make his clients feel secure and valued. I would highly recommend him to anyone going through any kind of workmans comp case!

I was unhappy with a previous lawyer I had for my car accident case and Michael Kiernan was recommended to me. I am so thankful for having had him as my lawyer. He responded immediately to any calls, emails or text messages. He genuinely listened in detail to my case and what my hope for a final outcome settlement would be acceptable. He negotiated several times and got insurance to lower their initial lien cost. Thank you Michael Kiernan for your professionalism and for going over and above to represent my case. You are the best!

I was seriously injured by someone tailgating me on route 24 in Brockton. I hired Mike after interviewing several lawyers. I found him to be a lot more knowledgeable (and personal) than the other attorneys a met. He kept me up to date on all aspects of my case, which gave me great comfort while I was laid up. He really cared about my (and my family's) well being. I received a great settlement and was finally able to get back on my feet and back to work. It was a very difficult time but Mike helped me make the best of it. There are some honest lawyers out there. Mike is one of them.

When it comes to Attorneys, I’ve always gotten the impression that their time was more valuable than mine, and if I wanted actual attention, I was definitely going to be billed accordingly. With attorney Symanski I found the exact opposite. He set a fair price and then charged me exactly that despite how many consultations and changes occurred along the way. He was incredibly sincere and diligent regarding my case, and I also found that he genuinely cared not only about how he did his job, but also about how that performance ultimately resulted in favor of my family and me going forward. I’m incredibly grateful and recommend this attorney very highly. Five stars!

Michael was wonderful! He is knowledgeable, down to earth, and mellow. He was exactly what I needed to keep me grounded through my divorce with my high conflict ex. He has a great report with everyone in the courthouse and I was awarded every single thing I asked for. It was an absolute home run, which is unheard of in divorce cases.

Chris helped my mom out with a claim against an insurance company for an injury she suffered from a car accident. Chris was able to explain the process to her with exceptional detail, and never made her feel like she was asking stupid questions. He set appropriate expectations, so that we knew what to expect and followed through with his promise and his commitment. His hard work and dedication to his service, along with his years of experience in the law showed while working with my mother and inevitably led to a very favorable settlement with the insurance company. After his work with my mother, I continue to recommend his services to my friends and family should they need legal counsel or assistance and I’ll continue to recommend him.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Quincy, Massachusetts?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
